Oregon State University seeks research collaborations with Indian institutions
Indian President of Oregon State University recently visited IIT Madras Research Park to deliver a technical seminar. She said that Oregon State University is looking to connect with the best Indian institutes.
Study in US: To expand the footprints of Oregon State University in India, Jayathi Murthy President of Oregon State University visited India to connect with students, faculty and researchers in various institutions.
While delivering a technical seminar at IIT Madras she said that from being admitted to the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur’s mechanical engineering department in 1974, till date she has had an “exciting run”. “I chose engineering because my father was an engineer. Mechanical for me was a radical choice, it was a rebellious choice,” she added, as reported by The Hindu.
Oregon State University looks to connect with best Indian universities
She said that in her leadership position, she is trying to connect with the best institutes in India for research.
“This whole trip for me is mapping out excellent education. Now I am in a position of leadership in Oregon [State University], and I want to make strong connections with the best universities in the country. Certainly, research connections, absolutely student connections, both grads and undergrads,” she says.
"OSU has an interest in sustainability, clean energy, climate... they play out differently in Oregon and India but much of the science is common. I am trying to make connections with like-minded institutions on research and teaching and education to see if we can find common ground and find a path forward together," she added.
About Jayathi Murthy
She started her academic career at Arizona State University in 1984, and later from 1998 to 2001, she worked as a professor of mechanical engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Next, from 2001-2011, she was a mechanical engineering professor at Purdue University, from 2012-2015, she served as chair of the mechanical engineering department at the University of Texas at Austin and since January 2016, she was the first woman dean of the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science.
