Study in US: The Provost’s TMC Collaborator Fund has granted seed funding to various institutions within the Texas Medical Center (TMC), the Baker Institute for Public Policy, and seven research partnerships involving Rice University.
These seven projects will focus on cancer therapeutics, medical ethics, nursing, paediatrics, immunotherapy, and neurology.
Rice’s Office for Educational and Research Initiatives for Collaborative Health (ENRICH) facilitated these grants.
“Through this funding opportunity, we aim to promote the development of self-sustaining, nationally competitive research programs that address critically important issues in or relevant to health care,” said Sharon Pepper, executive director of ENRICH.
"The project aims to assess the use and ethical implications of AI technologies within the TMC community, establish an internship program with the Baker Institute and the Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy and identify collaborators to create a national center for ethical AI in health care. Expected outcomes include peer-reviewed papers, educational modules on AI ethics in health, collaborative grant proposals and new research initiatives at Rice and BCM," reads the official statement.
Local Students Celebrate 11th Annual School House Mania Games
The 11th annual School House Mania games was sponsored by Rice Athletics where Rice University invited the local elementary school students to campus for basketball and educational programming.
Senior Madeline Belknap, student assistant manager of Fun with Chemistry, said, “I’ve been part of Rice Fun with Chemistry for the past four years, and this event felt like the perfect way to wrap up my semester — sharing the fun of science with students in such a unique setting during the women’s basketball game. Their energy and excitement were incredible.”
Belknap said, “We are so grateful for our partnership with Rice Athletics and their support of our program, which makes it possible to combine basketball and chemistry in a way that gets everyone curious and excited. We hope to inspire young students to see themselves as scientists — and maybe even as future Rice Owls.”
