The last date to apply for the International Climate Protection Fellowship in Germany is February 1, 2025. It is a 12 to 24-month research project for postdocs and prospective leaders with climate expertise from transition and developing countries.

Indians interested in research projects in Germany can apply for the International Climate Protection Fellowship. International students are invited from non-European developing and transition countries who are prospective leaders and postdocs with climate expertise. The selected candidates will get to do the research work in Germany for 12 to 24 months.

The Humboldt Foundation has encouraged members of underrepresented groups and female prospective leaders to apply for the fellowship.

"We welcome all applications, regardless of ethnic, cultural or social background, gender identity, age, religion, worldview, disability or sexual orientation," says the official announcement.

Benefits Of International Climate Protection Fellowship In Germany

The following are the benefits provided to the selected candidates:

The selected fellows will get a monthly fellowship amount of 2,200€, 2,500€ or 2,700€ plus ancillary benefits based on the career level and training as a postdoc.








  • They will get individual support during their stay in Germany.
  • Fellows will get additional financial support for travel expenses, accompanying partners and children expenses, full private health insurance, and for German language course.
  • Extensive alumni sponsorship and a three-week introductory event.
  • The hosts also get a monthly allowance for research costs of 500€ for projects in the humanities and social sciences and 800€ for projects in the natural and engineering sciences.

Eligibility Criteria For International Climate Protection Fellowship

The following are the entry requirements:

  • The applicants are expected to have very good knowledge of English and/or German language.
  • They need to engage with climate change issues.
  • They must be a citizen of a non-European developing or transition country.
  • Have leadership skills and initial experience in a leadership role.

"Did you complete your first academic degree (Bachelor’s or comparable degree) during the last twelve years (cut-off date is the application deadline on 1 February)? Do you have extensive professional experience, at least 24 months on the application deadline – or alternatively a Master’s degree in any field (or comparable degree) plus at least twelve months of relevant professional experience related to climate issues after the first university degree? If so, apply for an International Climate Protection Fellowship," added the official statement.
