Study In Ireland: TUS Celebrates 62% Increase In PhD And Masters By Research Graduates
Technological University of the Shannon in Ireland celebrated a 62% increase in Masters and PhDs by research graduates as compared to last year.
Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) has once again celebrated the large cohort of PhD and Masters by Research students. This is the third consecutive year of celebration. The Masters and PhD students witnessed a remarkable 62% increase in 2024 as compared to the previous year with a total of 15 Masters and 42 PhD by research conferrings.
Dr Liam Brown, VP for Research Development & Innovation at TUS, said, “Our strong connections with leading industries and the local community enhance the employability of our graduates across Ireland. This high demand for our students is reflected in the diverse nature of our applied collaborations, which cultivate award-winning researchers who excel in their fields.”
Dr Lisa Moran, Dean of Graduate Studies and Head of the Graduate School said, “This is another strong performance from TUS in relation to the quality of research produced by our students and the increasing numbers of graduates with Masters by Research and PhD degrees in 2024. The opportunities for powerful societal impact from this research are immense. This is a further testament to the calibre of teaching, learning and research supervision at TUS.”
TUS Welcomes 34 New PhD And Masters By Research Students
As part of the celebrations, the university welcomed 34 new PhD and Master's Research students. These students are supported under the TUS RISE programme. The graduates were mentored by the leading supervisors in areas such as BioPharma, Food, Advanced Manufacturing, Hospitality, Tourism, ICT, Sustainable Development, and Creative Industries.
TUS Gets €7.5 Million Funding For City North Sports Arena
The university has welcomed the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Patrick O’Donovan confirmation that the City North Arena project at Coonagh will get €7.5 million in funding. The fund will be granted by the Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF) and the projected total cost of the project is €15.4 million.
Professor Vincent Cunnane, President of TUS, said, “This is a major funding announcement for a project of international and national standing and of major significance for the Midwest region. City North Arena will be of direct benefit to Limerick and constitutes a major strategic element in the development of the northside of the city. We are ready to embark on the next phase of this exciting development with our project partner, Cycling Ireland.”
Jimmy Browne, Vice President of Campus Services and Capital Development at TUS, said, “We want to continue providing high-quality facilities to help increase participation in sport, as well as providing quality facilities for the region in line with our Campus Masterplan. This will form the first part of our broader City North Sports Park at Coonagh. Limerick has transport infrastructure that makes it easily accessible to most of the country, together with the proximity to Shannon Airport, which makes Limerick an ideal location to also support plans for the national centre in Abbotstown.”
