Study in Japan: Applications open for Honjo Scholarship; Deadline is October 31
The scholarship provides an opportunity for international students to study in Japan and pursue doctoral or master's degrees at Japanese graduate schools. There are a total of 10 scholarships available.
Study Abroad: Japan is currently accepting applications for the Honjo Scholarship. It is for students from outside Japan who are interested in pursuing a doctoral or master's degree from a Japanese graduate school.
Applicants from all research files and nationalities are invited for the scholarship. They can directly apply to the Honjo International Scholarship Foundation without pre-selection by the university.
The scholarship amount is given monthly for the entire period of the degree. The amount is given as ¥180,000 per month for 4 ~ 5 years of degree, ¥210,000 per month for 3 years of degree, and ¥230,000 per month for 1 ~ 2 years of degree.
The recipient of the scholarships is not permitted to have other scholarships along with this scholarship. Only they can have the following scholarships in conjunction - JSPS International Fellowship, Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship, and Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship.
Students can only do part-time jobs related to their studies and cannot join jobs which are full-time or not related to their studies. They can join as research assistant, teaching assistants or international exchange affairs like interpreters and translators.
How to apply for Honjo Scholarship in Japan
- Apply at the online application system here - https://entry.hisf.or.jp
- Students need to upload the documents which will not be accepted via mailing and need to be submitted through the online application only.
- An application number will be provided to the applicant after they successfully fill out the application form.
Documents Needed
The applicant needs to upload the digital files of the following:
- Face photo with extension .jpg or .gif with a maximum size of 500kB
- PDF files of academic transcript, recommendation letter from supervisor
- Research proposal
- A two-minute video of the research plan.
"The travel grant to cover expenses for attending an international conference will be provided to scholarship recipients based on our scholarship provision rules," reads the official statement.
"The scholarship recipient is required to participate in the individual interview and the events that the Foundation organizes," added the statement.
