Study in UK: Oxford urges new students to complete online consent training

To encourage the university to be inclusive and safe for students, the University of Oxford has asked new students to complete the online consent training before the term starts. It is to tell the students that harassment and sexual violence are never acceptable inside the university campus and all the students are expected to contribute to a respectful community of learning.

This consent is free and interactive. This training is used in various universities across the UK.

"It has been written, designed and developed by Brook, the only national charity to offer sexual health services, education and wellbeing services and training and support," reads the official statement.

"Consent for Students forms part of the University’s Oxford Against Sexual Violence campaign, sending a clear message that sexual harassment and violence of any form is unacceptable. Consent training complements the wider campaign, including the University’s Sexual Harassment and Violence Support Service," added the official statement of the University of Oxford.

Oxford introduces scholarship for students displaced by Israel-Gaza war

This new scholarship is known as the Palestine Crisis Scholarship Scheme. It is to help students who are displaced by the Israel-Gaza war to get access to higher education.

"These scholarships will enable talented students affected by conflict and crisis in Gaza and the West Bank to study in Oxford. As a University of Sanctuary, we have greatly expanded the range of scholarships available to refugees and displaced people from around the world. It’s important that, alongside this, the University is able to respond to the needs that arise from crisis situations that undermine people’s access to higher education within their own countries and regions. The scheme represents an important part of our wider efforts to contribute to the rebuilding of higher education in Gaza," said Professor Alex Betts, Local and Global Engagement Officer at the University of Oxford.

Richard Ovenden, Librarian of the Bodleian and Head of Gardens, Libraries and Museums (GLAM) at the University of Oxford, commented, "As a world-leading library that is committed to supporting scholars worldwide, we are delighted to be able to extend access to our online services and collections to students and scholars in, or displaced, from Palestinian universities."
