Queen Mary University of London has bestowed honorary fellowships and degrees to its four students including - Joanne Hannaford, Julie Begum, Peter Heathcote and Padmavati Ramachandran.

President and Principal, Professor Colin Bailey CBE said, "Each year, Queen Mary carefully selects recipients from all walks of life for our honorary degrees, one of higher education's most significant accolades. This year, I am delighted we are honouring Peter, Joanne, Julie, and Padmavati for their outstanding achievements and welcome them to our distinguished group of honourees."

“Their work has made a significant contribution, not only to their respective fields, but to society overall. And, as individuals, they truly reflect our university’s values. Congratulations to all,” added Professor Colin Bailey CBE.

These honorary degrees are given to recognize their invaluable contributions to digital technology, biochemistry, new initiatives to treat psychosis, and advocacy for East End communities.

Julie Begum has worked immensely to improve East London's communities, mainly the Bengali community. She is an activist, teacher and writer. Julie Begum is the co-founder of the Swadhinata Trust which promotes the history and heritage of Bengali among the youngsters in UK.

"Mentoring and nurturing new talent have always been passions of mine. I have found immense fulfilment in guiding the next generation of finance professionals and gender equity in STEM, watching them grow, learn, and eventually become leaders in their own right. There is no greater satisfaction than seeing those you have mentored surpass even their own expectations," she said.

Peter Heathcote was given this fellowship for contributions to the local community, his services in the university, and improving local schools. Dr Padmavati Ramachandran contributed outstandingly to the people with psychosis.
