Study In UK: University of Birmingham Gets New Research Building

Rt Hon Peter Kyle MP, UK Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, has opened the new Molecular Sciences Building at the University of Birmingham.

While commenting on this, Peter Kyle said, “The UK boasts a fantastic higher education sector, and I am continually bowled over by the work they are doing. The University of Birmingham is a brilliant example of that pioneering work with their research making significant contributions to scientific progress and advancing research in critical areas like climate change that will shape our future. This new facility will bolster our national mission to renew the UK: strengthening our leadership in global scientific discovery, driving innovation and collaboration, supporting high-value jobs and boosting our economy.”

Professor Rachel O’Reilly, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of Birmingham, said, “The Molecular Sciences Building opens up a wealth of opportunity for our world-class researchers to work together in entirely new ways. We are delighted to welcome Peter to our campus and show how these kinds of collaborations can stimulate new approaches to tackling global research challenges.”

University of Birmingham Joins Commonwealth Island Challenge

To tackle a range of global challenges, the university has joined hands with the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) to collaborate with The King’s Commonwealth Fellowship Programme (KCFP).

Professor Robin Mason, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International) - University of Birmingham said, "We are a civic university that engages globally. We are honoured to play our part in helping to resolve some of the major challenges facing Small Island Developing States. This excellent initiative further connects the University of Birmingham and over 20 universities around the world to our Commonwealth partners. We look forward to contributing to The King’s Commonwealth Fellowship Programme as it develops in the years to come."

His Majesty The King said, “I am delighted to support this important new initiative. Throughout my life I have believed in the power of education to improve lives and unite communities across the Commonwealth and beyond. There is so much we can learn from one another as we work together within the Commonwealth to tackle the major challenges of our age and, as these Fellowships do in Small Island Developing States, to address them where they are felt most acutely. It is my fervent hope that these new Fellowships will play a significant role in furthering the free exchange of knowledge and advancing the spirit of mutual support that lies at the heart of our Commonwealth - today, tomorrow and towards a brighter future for all.”
