University of Central Florida USA Offers Graduate Assistantships
The Graduate Assistantships at the University of Central Florida offer students professional and academic development experience and help them to be job-ready.
Study in USA: The University of Central Florida is offering Graduate Assistantships which includes the positions of Graduate Teaching Associate (GTA), Graduate Research Associate (GRA), and Graduate Assistant (GA).
"Graduate students enrolled in fully online programs that exempt them from paying campus-based fees are not eligible for graduate assistantships. Nondegree-seeking students may be employed but may not be classified as graduate assistants. Others that do not meet the criteria for being a graduate assistant may be hired as OPS (temporary) employees," reads the official statement.
Students Need To Sign Agreement With Hiring Department
Before getting hired for the graduate assistantship programs, the students should review the agreement, and then accept the agreement online. The students are advised to save a copy of their assistantships for the records, also before signing it, if they do not understand the agreement, they must ask questions.
After accepting the agreement, the candidate gets a confirmation email to tell that their agreement is ready. The email includes the link and instructions to log in.
International students applying to Graduate Assistantships at University of Central Florida
The foreign students are advised to complete the payroll sign-in process at the University of Central Florida Global before receiving payments from the university. Every year, they should also file tax forms to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Benefits of Graduate Assistantships
The main benefit is the tuition waiver or payment and there is also available health insurance for the GAs.
There is also a Parental Leave program for graduate assistants during pregnancy or immediately after the adoption or birth of their infant child. Females can choose up to 6 weeks of parental leave. Only those Graduate Assistants who are enrolled in a full-time graduate degree can avail of this benefit.
During the parental leave, the candidates will retain their student's status and other benefits of the student.
"The College of Graduate Studies will pay the assistantship stipend equal to the rate of the student’s existing assistantship agreement(s) for a 20 hours per week assistantship during the approved leave period. Arrangements for this payment will be coordinated with the student’s assistantship sponsor (i.e., hiring department)," added the official statement.
