University Of Florida To Acquire One Of World’s Most Powerful Supercomputers

This acquisition will make the university one of the first higher education institutions in the USA to own such a machine.
Study in US: The Board of Trustees of the University of Florida has approved investing $24 million to acquire UF’s HiPerGator supercomputer's more advanced version.
Board of Trustees Chair Mori Hosseini commented, “The University of Florida’s commitment to excellence means that we will always work on the cutting edge of innovation. With this new groundbreaking technology, UF will continue to lead the way nationally and bring tremendous value to the state of Florida. Students, faculty, staff, and researchers throughout Florida will have access to this incredible resource and use it to help solve some of the world’s greatest problems.”
University Of Florida's AI Supercomputer: More Details
The new supercomputer is co-founded by the alumnus Chris Malachowsky. During the first half of 2025, the supercomputer is expected to be delivered to the Gainesville campus. HiPerGator was brought to the university in 2021 and it is a AI-based supercomputer.

UF Interim Provost Joe Glover said, “UF is a proven leader in AI, and this new technology will help us expand our reach even more. As AI continues to impact all facets of the state’s economy, we are thrilled to continue innovating at UF with this cutting-edge supercomputer.”
The projects being performed with the current supercomputer will be transferred to the next supercomputer.

Eldayrie, the vice president and chief information officer for UF commented , “Upgrading our new supercomputer, HiPerGator, will reinforce our leadership in artificial intelligence and significantly enhance our faculty and students' teaching, learning, and research capabilities.
