University of Sheffield invites applications for Biological Sciences with Placement Year MBiolSci course

As part of the studies, the students will also get the opportunity of placement for one year. It will help them to gain valuable experience in business, and working in industry.

University of Sheffield, UK is accepting applications for Biological Sciences with Placement Year MBiolSci course. Admission is open for the September 2025 intake.

The MBiolSci course is combined with a placement year to offer work experience to students before they start their research in the lab towards the end of the course, that is in the fourth year. The course duration is 5 years and it is a full-time program.

For eligibility criteria, the official statement reads, "85 % in standard XII (India – CBSE, CISCE & Maharashtra State Board), 80% in standard XII (India - West Bengal Board), and 90% in Standard XII (India – Other state boards) including Biology and a second science. IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component; or an alternative acceptable English language qualification."

The students will get extensive knowledge in biological sciences. They will learn to tackle with series of issues including cancer, antibiotic resistance and biodiversity crisis. Students will also work on major research projects which will be based on the studies of the first three years. In the first year itself, the students will be able to choose from human health, biomedicine, environment and molecular biosciences.

The students will be encouraged to express their ideas, think independently, and be creative. They will be able to contribute to aging and cancer with the help of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. They will also get a chance to travel in the UK or abroad for a field course and work on field research projects in the Peak District National Park.

Towards the end of the project, they have the option to specialize in biodiversity, biotechnology, biology, molecular biology or sustainability. They will get hands on experience with the latest equipment and will get the chance to carry out their own research projects in the field and in the lab.

Biological Sciences with Placement Year MBiolSci Course Details

Through placement, students will gain experience working in charity or government, business and industry. During the placement year, some part of the fees will be waived off. They will get to work with professionals and gain skills and knowledge which will help them in getting better job opportunities in the future. Students will develop skills in marketing, entrepreneurship, business, and management while working in a live environment. Students will also develop academic and research skills.

During the final year, they will explore a topic of their choice and work with the world-leading academics of the university. They will also work on a major research project in the field or in the lab.
