UQ researchers bag Advance Queensland Industry Research Fellowships
The program intends to support research alliances with industry partners to drive an inclusive and resilient Queensland economy.
Study in Australia: Nine researchers from the University of Queensland have been awarded the 2024 Advance Queensland Industry Research Fellowships program of worth $2.1 million. The program aims for research collaboration with industry partners. The awards were given to early and mid-career researchers and they are expected to lead various projects such as improving materials for lithium-ion batteries and developing AI kits for drug screening.
Advance Queensland Industry Research Fellowships Recipients
Dr Sahar Da'er received it for a project on drinking water, Dr Ramprakash Ananthapadmanaban for supersonic-combustion engines, Dr Mitch Dunn for antenna technologies, Dr Liwen Zhang to develop AI-based drug screening kits, Dr Chao Xing on project related to iron-flow-battery performance, Dr Miaoqiang Lyu on electronic products, Dr Tongen Lin on lithium-ion batterie, Dr Jiuling Li on sewer infrastructure, and Dr Zhetai Hu on wastewater treatment.
University of Queensland research recognized in world rankings
2024 National Taiwan University (NTU) Rankings has topped the UQ in ranking in Australia in four subjects.
"The University maintained its overall position as fourth in Australia in addition to topping the national table for Agricultural Sciences and Environment/Ecology for the sixth consecutive year," said the official statement.
The university has ranked 40th position in the world overall, sixth for Environment/Ecology, 12th for Environmental Science & Engineering, 13th for Agricultural Sciences, 17th for Social Sciences General, 20th for Pharmacology & Toxicology, 23rd for Plant & Animal Science, 25th for Microbiology, 25th for Psychiatry/Psychology, 33rd for Biology & Biochemistry, 37th for Chemical Engineering, 44th Economics and Business, 46th for Materials Science , and 50th for Molecular Biology and Genetics.
Medical Research Future Fund backs UQ epilepsy research
Medical Research Future Fund granted $4.1 million to UQ researchers to advance their research into epilepsy treatment. Professor Ernst Wolvetang was leading the project that aims to prove the efficacy and safety of venom-based drugs.
"The research aims to pave the way for human clinical trials and to establish organoids as a tool that can be used to test experimental treatments and therapies. The funding has been provided through the MRFF’s Stem Cell Therapies grant scheme," said the official statement.
