US News’ Best Global Universities Rankings place IU Bloomington at highest in Indiana

The university scored high in education and educational research thanks to its project done by Carmen Medina, professor of literacy, culture and language education.

US News’ Best Global Universities Rankings place IU Bloomington at highest in Indiana

Study Abroad: Indiana University Bloomington is delighted to rank highly in the U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities rankings for 2024-25. The university is placed at the highest position in Indiana. The ranking was given to 2,250 universities worldwide. In the overall ranking, Indiana University Bloomington is positioned at 135th, which is the highest rank achieved by any university in Indiana. In the subject-wise ranking, it earned mostly in education and educational research and was placed at No. 38.

While commenting on this, IU President Pamela Whitten said, “This recognition acknowledges the groundbreaking research of IU Bloomington faculty, which is regularly cited by experts around the world. Our ranking is also a testament to our robust international partnerships with communities and institutions on every major continent.”

Anastasia Morrone, dean of the IU School of Education in Bloomington commented, “The School of Education faculty’s research is clearly respected worldwide, and our global reputation has been enhanced through our strong history of international collaborations. In addition to this ranking, the 2023 Global Career Impact list, which ranks the world’s most influential scientists on the basis of citations, recently named more than 10% of our faculty as among the top 2% of scholars worldwide.”

IU Bloomington's performance at US News’ Best Global Universities Rankings Details

The global ranking mainly assesses how the university's scholarship and academic research are performing. Bloomington witnessed its high improvement in citation impact score which was 168 spots up from the previous year.








The university's notable work in the global research area is a project done by Carmen Medina, professor of literacy, culture and language education who is working to foster critical literacy in the US and developing culturally relevant curricula. On these projects, Professor Carmen Medina is working with peers in Puerto Rico.







Global and International Engagement Office of the university is also actively connecting its students and faculty members with researchers from other countries and is also managing many academic collaborations with other universities including with the Universität Hamburg in Germany.
