The names of the faculty members who bagged the 2024-2025 Fulbright U.S. Scholars are - En Morris Chang and Dr. Mauricio Arias.

USF College of Engineering Faculties Get 2024-2025 Fulbright U.S. Scholars

Study in US: University of South Florida (USF) College of Engineering has announced that En Morris Chang and Dr. Mauricio Arias, the two faculty members, have been selected as the 2024-2025 Fulbright U.S. Scholars. The recognition highlights the global impact of their work and their outstanding contributions to engineering research.

Dr. J. Morris Chang, a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at USF said, “I am very excited about the teaching and research opportunities offered by this prestigious Fulbright award. I am particularly eager to study the privacy related issues on the social network applications used widely in Taiwan and teach their students a graduate-level course on privacy-preservation machine learning by using my recent textbook.”

Dr. Chang is known for his research in machine learning and cybersecurity. At the university, he led various projects on data privacy, cyber security, and machine learning funded by Cyber Florida, USSOCCOM, and DARPA.

He has co-authored a textbook along with his PhD students which offers information on “Privacy-preserving Machine Learning”.

This prestigious award is a testament to the exceptional accomplishments of its faculty and the university's role as a leader in innovation and international collaboration," says the official statement of the university.








USF Faculties Win 2024-2025 Fulbright U.S. Scholars: More Details

Dr. Mauricio E. Arias, PhD, PE, an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at USF who also won the prestigious award commented, “I am very excited about this opportunity Fulbright and USF have given me. This has been already a great opportunity (I’ve been in Mexico since August) to learn about coastal processes that affect the Gulf of Mexico. It has also been a great opportunity for me and my family to fully immerse in the rich Mexican culture."







His research is on regional water management challenges and his project has an interdisciplinary approach towards the issue. He is leading the university's Watershed Sustainability Lab.

He is the lead grantee on a project - “Evaluating the Role of Wetlands in Coastal Resilience in the Gulf of Mexico.
