We hope medical license exams get simplified: Preparatory Dept Head, Krasnoyarsk State Medical University
Shiksha.com spoke to Ekaterina Andriushkina, Head of the Preparatory Department at Prof V. F. Voino-Yasenetsky KRASNOYARSK STATE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY about the educational opportunities for Indians in Russia. Read here the excerpts of the interview.
Q: How do you plan to attract international students, particularly Indians?
A: Our university is very interested in Indian students. We are constantly working on quality education. The majority of our professors are PhD and doctors of medical science. So, the students learn from the professionals. They teach in English. The practical and lecture classes are all in English. We meet the requirements of the National Medical Commission India in terms of teaching in English and also in terms of the duration of practice. They practice in total for more than 12 months. They work on patients from the very first semester in Clinics and hospitals in our cities. They need to learn the Russian language also for this purpose. It is part of the curriculum.
Q: Could you tell us about the financial assistance the Russian government, your university or other universities are providing specially for Indian students?
A: The assistance of the government is possible from the next year because this year the application for government quota is already over but they can go to the governmental website which is educationinrussia.com and apply for governmental quota and study for free in universities. Of course, they will have to put priorities like which universities they want to go first. For eg -if there is some problem, they can move to second priority and study in the university that they like.
Q: How do you compare the Indian education system with that of the Russian education system?
A: I think our medicine and medical education are based on the same core values. Professionally for the accessibility of medicine innovation and research, we need to cooperate with Indian universities and Indian companies and we need to exchange our students so we can learn from each other and develop together.
Q: Should we expect more medical education collaboration partnerships in the near future?
A: I hope there will be improvement in terms of recognition of medical education in our countries. For eg- even in Russia if you get a medical diploma, you will have to go through the procedures to prove that you are ready to work as a doctor, to pass special exams even if you are Russian and holds a Russian diploma in medicine. Same in India, if you get a medical diploma you need to pass the exams to get a licence. I hope in future this procedure will be simplified for students who study in Russia and India. We really hope for such collaboration.
Q: Medical is the most popular course among Indian students. Which are the other popular courses?
A: It is a difficult question because we have been working with medical university and only with students of medical university. Maybe some technical specialities in Engineering are popular among students.
Q: In the current war situation, what do you think how safe is Russia for Indian students? Is there any problem with safety?
A: I don't think there is any such problem of safety because Russia is a very safe country. We don't have any political events and occasions happening on the street or anything like that, so nothing happening in Russia because of war.
