History
London Met Uni was founded in 1848. In the same year, then Bishop of London called upon the clergy to set up evening classes. The Metropolitan Evening Classes for Young Men was born and later became the City of London College and then the City of London Polytechnic.
In the year 1861, the enrollment number increased to 800 and classes were established as the City of London College. The campus life began in 1896 as the Northern Polytechnic Institute. By the year 1900, student numbers doubled and later on the institute’s evening degrees were recognized by the University of London. In 1992, it was awarded a university status and adopted the name London Guildhall University. In the same year, the Polytechnic of North London won the right to award degrees and status as a university. In 2002, London Guildhall University merged with the University of North London to form London Metropolitan University.
