Public Health MPH - Batch of 2024
4.1
University of Birmingham - diverse, warm and a vibrant campus.
Tips: Coming from a country known for its diversity, India, it's pretty fine adjusting here. There are lots of opportunities to network and bond with the people in your university accommodation and university, such as different get-togethers, international meets, and career networking events. I availed of the global master's scholarship of 2,000 Pounds when I was coming here, which the university gives out itself if the candidate has a good educational background and experience. I'm pretty satisfied with the university and its faculty. It's a hassle being in the country and working for every penny, but honesty, it gives you a sense of freedom, and hard work always plays off.
Likes (Part time work): I got into part-time work at the university and outside in a month after moving here. There are lots of opportunities for part-time as long as you keep an eye out for those things. It's hectic, but it's manageable with academics. A sense of discipline here would be a bonus. The average payout for part-time work varies around 11.5/hour-12/hour.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): In my field, it is the NHS that sponsors visas and also city council. But it's a little tough to get into these companies if you're a fresher and lack experience. However, it's important to note that these roles are open to people from different sectors, such as administration, communications, media, etc. For freshers, the average package varies around 25k/30k per annum.

There is a diverse environment which helps us grow significantly.
Tips: I didn't face any differences regarding religion or culture. I got a 40% scholarship due to my results. This environment is really helpful and friendly for every country's students. Overall, I am satisfied with my campus and the environment.

It provides a solid foundation for public health career.
Tips: Transitioning to the University of Birmingham was both exciting and challenging. The cultural shift was significant, especially coming from a different country. I had to adapt to new social norms, academic expectations, and even the weather. However, the university's welcoming environment and diverse student body made the transition smoother. Engaging in various student activities and societies helped me acclimate and make new friends. I did avail myself of a scholarship. I applied for the University's International Scholarship programme, which required submitting an application form, academic transcripts, and a personal statement. The MPH course was rigorous and well-structured, offering a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The faculty were supportive and always available for guidance. Living in the UK has been a rewarding experience, with its rich history, diverse culture, and numerous opportunities for personal and professional growth. I feel well-prepared for my future career in public health and grateful for the experiences and education I received. Overall, I am highly satisfied with my experience at the University of Birmingham.

Great university with effective and updated modules for learning.
Tips: Before joining this college, students should be aware of what course they are taking up and gear up for an amazing journey ahead. They should be aware of what they are looking at in the future and how the modules are gonna shape the course of their study in the years to come. Also, they should be aware of the marking scheme and analyse their progress throughout.
Likes (Public transportation): Public transportation is affordable and quite well-connected. Living closer to the city centre makes it more convenient with all the big grocery stores around. It's well connected to other nearby cities and easier to travel. The university is itself supported by small grocery shops to satiate immediate needs.
Dislikes (Value for money): The tuition fee is a bit on the higher end considering the number of in-person sessions that were organised. However, it was a well-planned course where we had ample time to go through the intricacies of each module and learn varied skills to improve my overall thinking abilities.

They provide a variety of faculties from all over the esteemed organizations to teach us
Tips: There was a cultural shift but not on a major scale. I received a 2000 international student scholarship for my tuition fees. I am satisfied with my university and course. The university is publicly funded and belongs to the Russel group.
Likes (Student Life): The university schedule is a bit hectic for a few courses. Classes usually take place five days a week from 9.30 am to 5 pm. There are many events organised by the university and sometimes by other organisations. The main attraction is exposure and free food.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Prices are a bit high but provide fresh and quality food. I prefer to cook by myself as it saves money. There are many grocery shopping options available but the cheaper ones are Aldi and Lidl. If you are able to issue a Nectar card, then Sainsbury is also a good option.

2.9
An academic oriented university with engaging workshops and career fair going around the year.
Tips: Before joining the University of Birmingham, students should know its emphasis on research-led teaching, diversity, and active campus life. Be prepared for independent learning and take advantage of Birmingham's professional opportunities and vibrant city life for holistic growth.
Likes (Public transportation): Birmingham is the second largest city in the UK. The city council gives 100 percent in maintaining the transportation facilities. We have a university station stop which is loaded on the campus which makes it easier to connect from different parts of Birmingham as well as other cities.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Public health has minimal visa-sponsored job opportunities and being in a highly competitive region makes it even harder to get a sponsored job in this field. Though there are various scopes of jobs in this field it can be broadly classified into the public health practice side and the research side. Both the side has its own positive and negative. I would prefer to settle in the country if I get a visa sponsorship.
