Michigan State University
Highlights

  • The M.S. degree in Civil Engineering is intended to provide training depth in specific areas of expertise beyond the Bachelor's degree. Such training can accelerate career development and increase opportunities
  • The M.S. training is also intended to provide a deeper technical background on the selected specialty so as to prepare for further academic training. The program is therefore structured to provide students with fundamental core training in the expertise of choice with enough freedom to direct the advanced training towards the student's career goals
  • The M.S. degree is being increasingly thought of as the first professional degree for Civil Engineering practice. As such, the program requires students to perform at high levels of technical competency and demonstrate the ability to perform independent work. Both theoretical and applied elements are emphasized and reinforced through a combination of core and elective courses as well as independent research options

Tips: I have liked living here so far and the college town is small yet cosy and welcoming. The student body is also multicultural and vibrant and you can expect to meet all sorts of people here. Good faculty and well connected routes for transportation.
Tips: Honesty, MSU is a great option if you are planning on pursuing a career path in STEM. Otherwise, it might not be the best fit for you. On the other hand, campus life and the student body are very welcoming and sports and campus culture are pretty fun.

It was a great experience and cherished every moment here.
Tips: The STEM programs here are excellent and leave you prepared for the workforce especially if you are someone passionate about research and technology. The weather is something to prepare for as it is a little extreme and can be very cold at times as well. There are job opportunities available but you need to look out for them a lot. The faculty is very helpful and will guide you throughout the course.

It is a big campus with lots of activities to do.
Tips: MSU is very diverse and very welcoming so you ideally shouldn't find it too hard to find your place here and settle in. Sports are a big deal here and the college takes a lot of pride in its sports teams and matches. The class sizes are huge which can make having direct interaction more difficult. Besides, student life is great and there are lots of activities and events to participate in.
