NLU Kolkata Highlights 2025

One of the best amongst the elite national law schools in India, built on the five-year law degree model proposed and implemented by the Bar Council of India (BCI), The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS or popularly known as NUJS) was established under the WBNUJS Act, 1999 (West Bengal Act IX of 1999. The University was notified under Clause (f) of Section 2 of the UGC Act, 1956 in August 2004 and has been granted permanent affiliation by the Bar Council of India in July 2005. It is one of the autonomous law schools in India. The NUJS, Kolkata, along with the GNLU and NLSIU, Bengaluru, continue to be the only three National Law Schools which have the honourable “Chief Justice of India” as the Chancellor.

NLU Kolkata cutoff 2024 for BA LLB (Hons.), BSc LLB (Hons) and LLM admission is based on the CLAT score, followed by the CLAT Counselling. The closing rank in 2024 for the BA LLB (Hons) course stood at 262 in Round 1 and 279 in the last round of CLAT cutoff for the general AI category candidates. For the LLM programme, the Round 1 and the Last Round closing ranks were 452 and 620.

Q: Can I join The WB National University of Juridical Sciences directly?

The WB National University of Juridical Sciences does not offer direct admission. Candidates need to qualify the accepted entrance exams for admission. The university considers CLAT score for admission to BA LLB (Hons), BSc LLB (Hons) and LLM courses. NLU Kolkata conducts an entrance test for admission to LLD, MSc and PhD courses. Selected candidates need to participate in the counselling round for admission.
