AICTE is on the cusp of authorising technical institutes across each district in the country to provide B.Tech and BE degrees for working professionals combined offline and online. This was not possible before this year. If you are an engineering aspirant with a day job, a B Tech degree in a flexible hybrid mode is your answer.

For many aspiring working professionals looking to make a career in engineering, obtaining a B.Tech degree online in 2024 and beyond will come with many other advantages.

If you are still unsure whether it will be helpful to your career, check the top 5 reasons to choose B.Tech online in 2024, below.

Earn B.Tech While at Your Day Job

Four years ago, before the 2019-2020 academic year, AICTE stopped approving evening engineering colleges offering B.Tech programs in the country.

However, in 2023, AICTE asked the affiliates to send applications to fulfil the criteria to offer flexible education in Bachelor of Technology.

According to the Education Times and The Hindu, AICTE has received roughly 170 applications from affiliated technical schools before the deadline date of 15 August 2023.

AICTE will approve three B.Tech/BE programs from each affiliated engineering institute. Each program will take only 30 students, with a minimum of 10 students who are working professionals.

Adaptable Criteria for the B.Tech Program

The students have to be working professionals. A B.Sc Degree with one year of working experience or an Engineering diploma is a must.

The engineering institute should run as an evening college and provide regular daytime classes.

The institute is free to admit candidates based on their diploma marks or let them take an admission test.

Cut Down on Moving Expenses

AICTE’s decision to offer a specialised bachelor’s program in Engineering to working professionals in hybrid mode suggests the need for affordable education for working professionals.

While there will be no compromising on the degree's quality, more institutes will offer these flexible B.Tech programs.

According to Rajive Kumar, member secretary of AICTE, “We are aiming to start at least one to four institutions in each district”. So it is quite a breather that the students will not have to relocate anywhere far from their city or town.

Convenient Education from Prime Institutes

Well-reputed technical institutes are offering these hybrid B.Tech degrees. You have NSUT (Netaji Subhas University of Technology) and DTU (Delhi Technological University).

DTU has an NIRF ranking of 29 out of 200 universities in India. Its Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering contains 11 well-equipped curriculum laboratories and 4 research laboratories.

Apart from that, the faculty of this department contributes to Weily, Springer Elsevier, and similar international journals.

Texas Instruments, Synopsis, Sandisk, and Qualcomm are among the many recruiters to expect here.

The institute has yet to confirm the admission dates for the academic year of 2023-24, or it will probably look into taking candidates from next year.

Earn a Hybrid B.Tech Degree in 3 Years

Based on what AICTE is now saying, the selected students in the hybrid B.Tech program will have flexible schedules.

60% of the education will be face-to-face. While 40% of the learning can be achieved from MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), which will be based on specific UGC norms.

The student must obtain 120 credits (on-campus and online) in three years to obtain the B Tech degree.

So, one of the biggest advantages of this hybrid learning mode is that you can upskill quite quickly in 3 years while working.

Parting Thoughts

Earning a B.Tech degree as a working professional in 2023 in a hybrid online mode is advantageous. There is no compromise on the quality of education. In fact, you will be able to upskill in the emerging domains of technology and engineering with much flexibility.
