Return of BGMI Mobile Game in India
After a year-long ban, BGMI (or PUBG) makes a powerful return to India on 1 June 2023. The return of BGMI will greatly boost the Indian e-gaming industry, as it was one of the most popular mobile games before it was banned in India last year. The game is now available for download on both Google Play and Apple App Store.
Last year on 28 July 2022, BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India), along with 59 other apps, was banned by the Government of India. The ban was a part of the larger crackdown on Chinese apps over security concerns. The return of the BGMI will give a major boost to the Indian Gaming Industry and attract new investment. The game was one of the most popular mobile games, with over 100 million registered users.
The global esports industry is expected to be worth $1.72 billion in 2023, up from $1.45 billion in 2022. The industry is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21.5% from 2023 to 2030.
On return of BGMI, the Government of India Officials added that they will monitor the game for three months to ensure that it complies with all regulations or not. In case of any law violations, the game will be banned again.
Krafton, the parent company of BGMI, has made some major changes to comply with Indian laws and regulations:
- BGMI will be available only in India.
- Game servers are located in India.
- Data will be stored in India.
- The privacy policy has been aligned with Indian laws.
- The game’s in-app purchases will be done in Indian rupees.

- Aftermath 2.0: The update includes new bunkers, armour, firearm, consumables adjustments, and a semi-truck.
- Transform: Allows dead players to accompany their teammates in the hologram game.
- New Loading Ports on Erangle
- Voice Translation: Allows players to translate what they are saying into the mic into words.
- Weather System Improvements: This makes BGMI more realistic and immersive.
- Hospital Remodel: This update remodels the hospital building of Geogopol.
- Gun Shields: They can be added to LMGs to improve their survivability.
- M16A4 and Mk-47 Mutant Buffs: These two weapons have been buffed to make them more viable in competitive play.
