Master of Science in Computer Science - Batch of 2025
4.9
University of California San Diego is the best place to be.
Tips: San Diego is the best place to live in US. And in particular, TAship and RAship at UCSD come with a tuition fee waiver. There is moderate expenditure. The department is focused on research. Great research facilities and great alumina. On-campus housing is a plus and free passes to roam around San Diego.

Good courses, faculty, research and career options make UCSD a top choice
Tips: Students should look at the cost of living and financial aid options before joining the campus as it is generally expensive to live around San Diego area. Students should clearly be prepared in choosing their track either industry or academic research and start preparing for it from day one. The courses require prior requisites and so students have to carefully look at the track they choose relevant to their interests and put in efforts to achieve their goals. Teaching assistantships are very competitive but might be available during the second year of your program. You'll have to do well on the courses and maintain good contact with the professor if you are looking to get one. Some students get TAs outside their department which is an option to consider. Courses are rigorous and the quarter system is fast-paced. So one has to adapt to this structure.
Likes (Safety): The college administration considers safety to be of utmost importance with annual safety reviews happening every year. Any safety is immediately published to make you aware of the incidents. The campus has security officers to report to even at night times. The area around campus is filled with student population, so there is no concern for safety.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Due to the H1B immigration system, permanent immigration system is convoluted although it might take longer than expected. There are no specifics to the university, this is general for all US universities. Given a chance I would immigrate to this country especially considering the state-the-art work done at many companies

Great university - Best work options after graduation
Tips: Great culture, smooth transition for international students since there are many others and the school is very accommodating. Very satisfied with the university, the course is great with excellent ROI. I was given scholarships during admission which we could appeal and negotiate if we wanted to, other scholarships were also available through affinity groups

M.S. in Mechanical Engineering - Applied Advanced Study - Batch of 2023
Offered by Carnegie Mellon University
3.7
You will be surrounded by smart people and will have a good learning curve.
Tips: A huge transition in terms of workload and lifestyle. Overall the students are friendly here. I was not fortunate enough to receive any scholarship and was able to offset my only expenses by being a research assistant and teaching assistant. The quality of education is awesome. Semester can be tough and stressful but end of the day you will have a good learning curve.
Likes (Public transportation): You can cover most of the city using the Pittsburgh Bus transport service and it is covered in the annual transportation fee which you pay to the college. You can access the transportation with your student ID card and can travel multiple rides throughout the year.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): There are companies that are ready to sponsor visas post your graduation, but due to the current economic situation (2023) there are not many offers. Robotics, control engineer and ML engineer are some of the roles that are offered to students post graduation.

M.S. in Software Engineering - Batch of 2023
Offered by Carnegie Mellon University
4.1
Best private university in USA
Tips: Before joining, students should know that CMU is expensive private university so they need to be very careful while paying any expenses. University academic is very rigorous so they need to prepare themselves for much hard work. After coming in CMU I experienced a little cultural shift but was easy to cope with. I didn't avail of any scholarship. University is fully worth it for Masters in software engineering, course is also as per the industry requirement and the country is the best for Tech related career.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Faculty members of CMU are approachable, friendly and supportive in nature. They encourage students to research work, doing different real world projects. Faculty members are well-experienced, top researchers and industry professionals. Teaching methods are unique and beyond traditional methods i.e. methods include project-based learning, group discussions, case studies, lectures from guest industry professionals. Much diversity can be found in the university among faculty members in terms of nationality, culture, engineering practices and so on.
Dislikes (Internships): Much guidance is available in terms of finding internship by professors, Alumni. There is a career center of CMU which supports and provides resources for finding and applying for internships. It also conducts workshops for students related to interview preparation, and resume writing. There are many available internships in the field of software engineering from big MNCs like Google, Amazon and so on.

MS in Civil and Environmental Engineering / MBA Program (Tepper School of Business) - Batch of 2025

Amazing experience at CMU!
Tips: There was a huge cultural shift. But people here made me feel more inclusive. I got a scholarship of 50k dollars. University supported me for the scholarship. This decision was worth every penny. Every day here is a new learning day. After 7 years of experience, I felt my learning curve was getting better, but here I started pushing myself out of my comfort zone which was very important.
Likes (Post study jobs): There are so many fun filled activities for students here. Your personal life and college life will be well balanced. Fitness events and student counselling sessions are organised weekly. To make them feel comfortable on campus. There are professional and non-professional clubs on campus varying from Consulting to Swim Club.
Dislikes (Public transportation): It has amazing faculty, well qualified from across the world. Every faculty has a different style of teaching. The classes are very interactive. If you don't even do the post study and only concentrate on classes, half of your work is already done.

CMU MBA Tepper Review
Tips: Pittsburgh is a smaller city as compared to major cities such as LA and New York. The local population is very warm and welcoming. Additional, there is a large Indian student community which makes things easier. CMU also has a very rich Indian alumni network that makes thing much easier.
Likes (Public transportation): The CMU ID gets us access to various local transportation services in and around the city. The buses are very nice and have a good frequency. Overall, the city is very well connected via the public transportation system. For CMU students the local public transport is free. Additionally, CMU also has a shuttle that runs on popular routes.
Dislikes (Part time work): As an international student, the opportunity to work part time is limited for on-campus jobs due to visa status restrictions. The on-campus jobs are limited and the number of applicants for those jobs is pretty high. It is not that there are no on-campus jobs, but getting them might be a bit tough.

Impressed by the job opportunities. University affiliations help a lot.
Tips: Negotiate scholarships on the basis of acceptances/scholarships received from other schools. An intense basecamp of 3 weeks is held by the school to help transition to the new environment. I am very satisfied with the flexibility to choose multiple subjects offered by different colleges within the university.
Likes (Post study jobs): Many companies are affiliated with/visit CMU for recruitment. The recruitment department is excellent and provides assistance in building resumes and interview prep. The industry is average and above observed in terms of jobs and salary packages offered to students.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are some restaurants to eat out as well as grocery stores in case you want to cook. However, traditional products are expensive to buy including masala, cooker, etc. Easier to find American replacements. Also, CMU provides a free pantry once a week for grocery and daily use items.

One of the best faculty in terms of research
Tips: This is a small and well-connected class. We had class networking and orientation for almost 3 weeks which shows the emphasis on networking and connections. Scholarships are also generous with merit-based scholarships. The course is data oriented so it is very quantitative.
Likes (Quality of faculty): CMU has one of the best faculty in terms of research and publications. MBA here is more data-oriented and so it is quantitative. CMU is known for its Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science and Cyber security programs. MBA also uses the latest tools and data analytics to make business decisions.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Pittsburgh is not a tech or any other industry-based city. Though now we have PNC and PWC offices, many other major tech companies and consulting companies don't have any offices here. So the options to settle here post-MBA are scarce. This slowly seems to be changing though.

Great campus and student life.
Tips: Generally, Indians face a cultural shift so please be prepared to be independent and do things on your own. Build a strong profile to get a scholarship and further try to negotiate whatever you get. Currently, I am satisfied with whatever I have experienced so far.
Likes (Student Life): Great campus, great facilities for academics, sports, food options and the student affairs team is very helpful and available for students. There are a wide variety of clubs- ranging from professional to fun clubs. The students are interactive and willing to participate in engaging conversations.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I cook and eat my own food, not really sure about Indian food, although there are quite a few Indian restaurants. Generally, food will be available for $20 which is reasonable given the portions. There are a variety of cuisines like Turkish, American, Spanish, Mexican etc. Available.

Many job roles are available after completion of the course.
Tips: Initially, there was a bit of a learning curve after moving here. Everything was different the culture, the people and the food. The people here are extremely friendly which makes this place so much better. I was given a merit based scholarship from the university. Overall I am happy with the course, university and the country.
Likes (Post study jobs): There are a lot of jobs available in the market even when the economic condition is not the best There are a lot of companies that sponsor visas for work and there doesn't seem to be any issue with this the companies that offer jobs. A variety of jobs are offered which lets everyone get their dream role/company.
Dislikes (Part time work): There are a lot of part-time jobs available but because I am an international student I am not allowed to work part-time for a longer duration. For the first semester, we are advised not to work part-time as the schedule is very hectic The average payout is around $20-30.

Best administration & tech oriented University.
Tips: Negotiate for scholarships. Get an apartment near the bus stop, bus services are very reliable and free for students. CMU allows you to take courses from across the schools. Use it to your advantage. Be in constant touch with your seniors. They will help you with the unknown.
Likes (Internships): MCC offers several portals. Lot of companies visit campus. Alumni relations are strong. A lot of startups are coming up from CMU and they are always eager to recruit from CMU. A look at the data shows that seniors were able to land internships where they wanted to.
Dislikes (Safety): Some places can get scary after late hours. Some of my friends have had experiences of people trying to interact with them having not-so-good intentions. The city is practically closed after 9-10 pm, except for a few places hence the streets are mostly void of people.

Tepper Masters in Business Administration Review
Tips: Pittsburgh is a small yet vibrant city to live in. People are nice and friendly. However, the weather can be unpredictable at times. Tepper is known to give decent scholarships to deserving candidates. There is a large Indian student population at the CMU campus.
Likes (Student Life): CMU is a very close-knit community and Tepper is even more close. My classmates come from different facets of life and it has been a culturally enriching experience to interact with them. My conversations with the staff and the administration have been very positive. Everyone here is looking out for you.
Dislikes (Part time work): Only on-campus employment opportunities are available and considering the vast student population they are limited. F1 students are not allowed to work on off-campus opportunities in their first year of study. The university and various departments do post the TA and internship opportunities.

Challenging but worth-it!
Tips: The program is very rigorous for those who are very passionate about what they are studying. Compared to other universities, you spend more time working here. The college experience here will be very rewarding only if you are very passionate about the program.
Likes (Post study jobs): Companies recruit students from Carnegie Mellon, especially for Computer Science, very aggressively. We have a big technological companies. There are career fairs and networking opportunities, and the university provides students with opportunities to learn useful skills to get a job.
Dislikes (Student Life): Students spend most of their time working since the course load is very challenging, however, student life is usually what one makes of it here. There are many extracurricular opportunities but students focus more on academics generally. Thus it is not considered a "fun" school.

Best university for Bachelor of Information system
Tips: Little bit transition after coming to CMU and also experienced a cultural shift. But other things to know before joining CMU is that CMU has rigorous academics, high tuition fees and sometimes schedule is hectic. I am fully satisfied with CMU and course is worth doing and awesome.
Likes (Post study jobs): There are many companies which are willing to sponsor H-1B visas for skilled IT professionals. Jobs roles include IT Analyst, data Analyst, Information security analyst, database administration and so on. Salary offered in the range of 70000 USD to 95000 USD.
Dislikes (Internships): Too much guidance and support is available for finding and applying for internships.
