Denmark's government has announced that in addition to the residence permit as a student, foreign students will be allowed to work for 90 hours per month from September to May during the normal period of study and full-time through June, July and August.

As per the official statement, the work permit remains valid when the student is seeking a job for a period of either 6 months or 3 years. This work permit is normally given if the student expects to complete a full-time course in Denmark. If one works for more hours than allowed, it will be considered illegal and in such case, the student can get a warning, a fine or the residence permit as a student can be cancelled.

Danish Immigration Service (DIS) and the Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) share a website - www.nyidanmark.dk, where students can get detailed information on residence and work permits.

Internship opportunities in Denmark

If a student gets a residence permit to study for a course that contains a mandatory internship, they will automatically get the permit to work full-time for the duration of the internship. The internship should be part of the chosen course and the place from where the student can complete the internship should be approved by the educational institution. For doing an internship, a grant of permit is mandatory, no student can start working full-time before they are granted the permit.

In case a student has not been granted a permit for doing an internship initially and later needs to complete the internship then they must apply for a full-time work permit. It is applicable to those students who will be working full-time during the internship.
