Two days after the fatal stabbing of Navjeet Sandhu in the Melbourne suburb of Ormond, two brothers Abhijeet and Robin Gartan were arrested in New South Wales.

Abhijeet and Robin Gartan were arrested in New South Wales's Goulburn on Tuesday in connection with the Indian student Navjeet Sandhu's death. The 22-year-old MTech student from India was stabbed to death in the Melbourne suburb of Ormond, officials said.

"Brothers Abhijeet Abhijeet and Robin Gartan were arrested in Goulburn with the assistance of NSW Police," the said Victoria Police, as reported by NDTV.

Sandhu was "fatally stabbed in the chest" with a knife by another student when he was trying to mediate a confrontation in a rent-related dispute between a group of Indian students. Navjeet's 30-year-old friend also sustained injuries in the incident, said the deceased student's uncle.

"Navjeet's friend (another Indian student) had asked him to accompany him to his house to pick up his belongings as he had a car. While his friend went inside, Navjeet heard some shouting and saw there was a fight. When Navjeet tried to intervene asking them not to fight, he was fatally stabbed in the chest with a knife," Sandhu's uncle Yashvir added.

He was a brilliant student and was to join his family in July for vacations, as revealed by his family. Navjeet had moved to Australia on a study visa one and half years ago and his father who is a farmer had sold one and half acres of their land for his education in Australia.








 

The police had released the images and details of the two brothers as they were searching for them in the stabbing case. As per the details, Gartan, 27 described as being 170cm tall with a solid build and black hair and Abhijeet is 26 years old and was described as being 170cm tall with a solid build and black hair.







The two brothers were on the run since the early hours of Sunday after Navjeet Sandhu from Noble Park was killed and a 30-year-old man, also from Noble Park, was injured at an Ormond home in Melbourne’s southeast. Gartan was charged with murder and attempted murder while Abhijeet was charged with affray. They are set to front the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.
