Study in UK: Applications for Gates Cambridge Scholarship Program for 2025 to open on September 4

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship Program is available for both US citizens who are residents of the USA and all other eligible international applicants. For both these categories, the application form will open on September 4, 2024.

Gates Cambridge Scholarship Program is a prestigious scholarship granted to international students for study at the Masters and PhD level at the University of Cambridge. The award value is £35,000 ~ £66,000 and it covers the tuition fees, student visa cost, maintenance, student immigration health surcharge and others.

There are a total of approximately 100 awards available this year which will be granted to highly meritorious students. The students need to demonstrate outstanding intellectual ability, leadership potential and commitment to improving others' lives. They also need to give reasons for the choice of course. There are 270 courses to choose from at the university and it is available to students from 255 nationalities.

Till last year, a total of 75 awards were being granted. Out of these two-thirds were for the PhD students with 55 scholarships available in the international round and 20 available in the US round. However, for the 2025 awards, the university is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the scholarship and hence provided 25 more scholarships, totalling 100.

For the US Round, the application deadline is October 16, 2024. The successful candidates of the US round will be informed by February 7, 2025. Successful international students will be informed by April 4, 2025.

Gates Cambridge Scholarship 2025 Details

The scholarship fully covers the course fees. The exact amount of the scholarship depends on many factors such as whether the student is getting any other funding awards, course length and fee. Moreover, it also offers funding for a wide range of other things including maintenance which add up to a total funding of around £66,000 per annum. This coverage includes - visa costs, flight train tickets for both sides and an NHS health surcharge. The scholarship extension is also provided depending on case to case. These are given when due to some reason the scholar was not able to complete their studies within the original tenure of the award. The maintenance allowance can be given for up to 4 years for PhD scholars.
