University of Sheffield has also achieved high rankings for Health and Wellbeing and Social Impact in QS World University Rankings: Sustainability.

University Of Sheffield At 27th Position In World For Sustainability In QS Rankings

Study in UK: In the QS Rankings, out of 1,751 institutions, the University of Sheffield is placed 10th in the UK, 16th in Europe and 27th globally for sustainability. The ranking is based on a range of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues.

University of Sheffield also placed high for Social Impact (at 29th globally) and Health and Wellbeing (at 15th globally).

Professor Koen Lamberts, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sheffield, said, “We are proud to see our ongoing commitment to sustainability being recognised in the QS Sustainability Rankings 2025. This acknowledgement reflects the University of Sheffield’s dedication to integrating social and environmental sustainability across every aspect of our institution, even as we navigate financial challenges. Our sustainability efforts are focused on creating meaningful and lasting change. We are equipping our students with the skills and knowledge needed to address the sustainability challenges of the future while driving research that delivers impactful solutions to tackle climate change and fostering equitable, clean growth.”

“Our progress this year, from achieving a 40 per cent reduction in emissions since 2018 to encouraging sustainable and active travel amongst staff and students, removing almost 2,400 commuting journeys from Sheffield’s roads in the last academic year, demonstrates our commitment to embedding sustainability across the University’s values and operations,” added Professor Koen Lamberts.

University Of Sheffield Performance In QS World University Rankings Details

The University’s full positions in the rankings are:

For Health & Wellbeing, it was placed at15th position, for Knowledge Exchange, it was at 27th place, Governance - 31st, Social Impact - 29th, Environmental Impact - 40th, Equality - 38th, Environmental Education - 55th, Environmental Research - 43rd, Employability and Opportunities - 90th, Environmental Sustainability - 88th, and Impact of Education - 244th.








“The University scored highly in a number of categories and achieved a score of 94.5 out of 100,” added the official statement.

"Sheffield was voted University of the Year in 2024 at the Whatuni Student Choice Awards - the largest annual university awards in the UK voted for exclusively by students. The award reflects a commitment to world-class education and an outstanding student experience. Its Students' Union, which is home to more than 350 societies and clubs, was also named Best Students’ Union for the seventh consecutive year," said the university further.
