How to Answer PTE Repeat Sentence Question?

A total of 10-12 PTE Repeat Sentence questions will be asked which means you will spend 3.5 to 4.2 minutes attempting this question type on the PTE exam

So, a good PTE Repeat Sentence practice is required as you have to answer 10-12 questions in such a short time.

Here are some key points that you need to remember while answering the PTE Repeat Sentence question:

  • The recordings start playing automatically.
  • The recordings cannot be replayed.
  • After the completion of the recording, the microphone also starts to record automatically without a short tone.
  • You are given only 1 chance to record your response for each recording.

To answer Repeat the Sentence question in PTE, you must:

  • Be prepared to listen carefully as the recording starts automatically and you will not be able to listen to it again.
  • Start speaking clearly when the recording box’s status changes to “recording”. This is because you will not be notified about the starting of the recorder with a short tone.
  • Try to complete your answer before the recorder’s progress bar reaches to end and the “recording” sign changes to “completed”.

Keep your focus on the screen and follow all the above-mentioned points as the time to listen to the recordings and repeat them on the recorder is given only once and automatically.

PTE Repeat Sentence Tips

Try to Find Small Meaning Parts in the Sentence

When you hear the sentence, try noticing the small phrases inside it. This help you remember the sentence better and say it again in the right order. If you focus on the important phrase parts, it becomes easier to repeat what you heard.

Copy the Stress and Voice Pattern

Listen how the speaker says the words — sometimes they stress one word, sometimes the voice go up or down. These things help you understand the meaning. When you speak, try to say it calm and clear and copy that same stress and intonation pattern.

How is PTE Repeat Sentence Scored?

The PTE Repeat Sentence score comes from three things:

  • Content
  • Oral Fluency
  • Pronunciation

Let’s see them in simple way.

Content

Your marks come from how many correct word groups you say. If you speak more correct words in the right sequence, you get higher score. If your answer doesn’t match any word or any correct part from the audio, then the score go down a lot.

Oral Fluency

Fluency means how smooth you speak. They check your speed, your rhythm, and how you place stress in words. The best fluency is when you speak naturally without stopping too much. Hesitation, repeating again, or starting wrongly can reduce marks.

Pronunciation

They see if native speakers can easily understand you. Good pronunciation means your vowels and consonants sound close to native style and you give correct stress on words. Your answer should be clear for most normal English speakers.
PTE accepts all accents, but it must be easy to understand.

Q:   How many Repeat Sentence questions are asked in the PTE test?
A:

The total PTE Repeat Sentence questions that may be asked in the Speaking & Writing section of the test range from 10-12. The total time dedicated to PTE Repeat Sentence questions range from 3.5 to 4.2 minutes. Candidates must be attentive while listening to the recorded audio note as the same will not be replayed and repeat the sentence with the same stress, intonation, rate of speech and rhythm with the most important aspect of scoring being the repetition of exactly the same words or phrases in the correct sequence.

Q:   Is 75 a good PTE score?
A:

Yes. A 75 PTE score falls under the 'Very Good' category. A PTE 75 score is equivalent to IELTS 7.5 - 8.0 band score. However, candidates should note that the real determining factor is their preferred university PTE score requirements. If they are eligible to apply with their PTE scores, good or else they can always re-take the test.

Q:   What is the 3 second rule in PTE?
A:

This is very risky rule. In Speaking section, if you stay silent for 3 seconds, the microphone turns off automatically. The computer thinks you finished the answer. So never pause for long time, just keep speaking something.
