An extract Filter is used to filter extracted data from the data source and helps to lower the tableau queries to the data source.

Steps to create an Extract Filter

• Connect a file (here, we will use sample superstore data)
• Select the Extract option (present in the top right corner)

• Click on the Edit option (next to Extract)
• Click on the Add option in the extract data window

• Select any of the fields (on which you want to apply the extract filter)
  • Here we will select the Postal Code
• Click OK

• After OK, a filter window will appear, choose the field and click OK

Data Source Filter

Data source filters apply to the data sources directly. It is used to filter data in data source proportion and restrict the file present in the data set.

Steps to create a Data Source Filter

The steps to create a Data Source filter are quite similar to creating an extract filter

• Connect a file (here, we will use sample superstore data)
• Click on Add button (present in the top right corner)

• Click on Add in Edit Data Source Filter window

• Select any of the fields (on which you want to apply the extract filter)
  • Here we will select the Postal Code
• Click OK

• After OK, a filter window will appear, choose the field and click OK
