The Charpak Scholarships are part of the French Foreign Ministry awards that provide various scholarships to Indian and foreign students for pursuing their higher education in France. The Charpak Scholarship program is one such initiative of the French government to support the education of Indian students in France.

The Charpak Scholarships are just one of the several scholarships provided by the French government towards Indian and international students to support and promote their higher education in France. The French government’s scholarship program in India is commonly referred to as “Charpak” after the name of the famous French physicist and noble laureate Georges Charpak (awarded a Nobel prize in 1992). 

The France Excellence Charpak Scholarship Program is administered and run by the Embassy of France in India. This scholarship program in India provides four types of funding at bachelor’s, master’s, doctorate and other levels of education. Types of Charpak Scholarships

There are four types of Charpak Scholarships as given below:

  1. Bachelor’s Scholarships, known as the France Excellence Charpak Bachelor Scholarship
  2. Master’s Scholarships, known as the France Excellence Charpak Master Scholarships
  3. Exchange Programmes, known as the Charpak Exchange Scholarship - Spring Session (Jan-June)
  4. Research Internships, known as the France Excellence Charpak Lab Scholarship

France Excellence Charpak Bachelor’s Scholarship

As the name suggests, the Charpak Bachelor’s Scholarships are provided to meritorious Indian students who wish to pursue their full-time bachelor’s degree at a French higher education institution. The main point of attraction about this scholarship program is that its duration lasts through the entire course of your bachelor’s degree. 








Awardees may avail of the following benefits on winning one of these esteemed Charpak bachelor’s scholarships:

  • French student visa fee waiver
  • Social Security 
  • Assistance with the accommodation in France - priority access to the crouse residences (purposed for students), if available. 
  • A monthly stipend of €860 towards the cost of living in France for Indian students.

France Excellence Charpak Master Scholarship

The Charpak Master’s Scholarship is for Indian students to help them pursue their full-time 1-2 years master’s program in France irrespective of their chosen fields and subjects. Students must note that they submit only complete applications through the online portals the French Embassy in India is not liable to respond to any application sent to them which is incomplete and not considered for the scholarships. 







The benefits of the Charpak Master’s Scholarship are just the same as that of the Charpak’s Bachelor’s scholarship, listed below.

France Excellence Charpak Lab Scholarship

The Charpak Lab Scholarships are aimed at funding the facility for Indian bachelor’s or master’s students to undertake their internship or research project during their mid-academic break (May to August) at a renowned French institution/research laboratory.

Charpak Exchange Scholarship - Spring Session (Jan-June)

The Charpak Exchange Scholarship program supports the student exchange program opted by Indian students currently enrolled in either a bachelor’s or a master’s degree program at a university in India. Students from all streams and fields of study who want to opt for an international exchange program to spend a semester in France are eligible to apply for this scholarship program. The scholarship remains valid for a period of 1 to 6 months only, in accordance with the semester length in the home country of the students. 

The benefits of availing of a Charpak Exchange Scholarship for Indian students are given below. 

  • Students benefit from a monthly stipend of €860
  • Social security
  • A fee waiver on the French student visa and Campus France fees
  • Assistance is provided to Indian students in terms of finding affordable student accommodation in France (if available).

Q. How to check Charpak Scholarship results?

A. To check the Charpak Scholarship results, one must visit the official Campus France website during the stipulated time frame of the release of the results. For example, the stipulated time period for the release of the Charpak Exchange Scholarships is the third week of November. So, applicants must keep a check on the official website or log in to their Campus France login portal starting from the second week of November. The students can follow the same process to check the results of other Charpak Scholarships, given that they remain updated with the timeline of their scholarships. 

Q. How to apply for Charpak Scholarships?

A. All the Charpak Scholarships must be applied for by logging into the official Campus France webpage at http://ifi.scholarship.ifindia.in/. Upon logging in, students will be required to upload the required documents in the desired formats and submit a completely filled application. The list of required commonly required documents is given below. 

  • Passport-sized photographs
  • A copy of the first and last page of your passport. In case a student has applied for a passport and has not yet received it before the time of applying to the Charpak Scholarships then, they will be required to submit a copy of the passport application form. 
  • An updated CV (can be of a maximum of 2 pages)
  • An NOC from the Indian institution
  • A copy of the acceptance/admission letter from the host French institution/research centre 
  • Copies of high school and college semester mark sheets
  • A French language certificate
  • Proof of past experiences 
  • LOR (if required)

Q. What are the eligibility criteria for Charpak Scholarships?

A. The eligibility criteria for different Charpak Scholarships are different. However, some common requirements for one to be eligible to avail of these esteemed scholarships include the following:

  • Students must be Indian nationals or must be OCI card holders.
  • Students must not exceed 30 years of age (for a master’s degree, student exchange program and research internships) and 23 years of age (for pursuing a bachelor’s program) as of the date of application. 
  • Students must be enrolled with a recognised Indian institution, preferably having a tie-up with a French institution.

The cost of processing the ‘Long Stay National Visa’ for study purposes is EUR 99/INR 8,923. This application fee is needed to be paid at the nearest BNP Paribas Branch.
