More about this course
  • This course sets out to provide an introduction to the philosophy of artificial intelligence
  • This course will cover the philosophical issues that emerge out of the development of current and future AI systems
  • It will aim to familiarise students with past and contemporary philosophical reflections on artificial intelligence, as well as to help them think critically about AI, our ways of engaging with it, and our moral obligations towards it
  • We shall also examine the discrepancy between the promise of an abstract and quasi-transcendent AI and the very real inequalities AI has possibly helped further entrench around the globe
  • Finally, we shall consider the potential societal consequences of the development of AI: from its use in politics, social media, warfare or even the environment, to the ethical, moral and safety dilemmas it has raised
  • To introduce participants to the history of philosophical debates about AI, the current state of the art in AI including some of its philosophical, ethical, social and political implications, and perspectives on the future of AI with the host of safety and existential risks it raises
