Applicants need to hold a bachelor's or master's degree from a recognised university or possess a professional degree in specific fields. Additionally, passing an entrance test conducted by IDE, Madras University, is mandatory. Students need to secure at least 50% marks in the external written examinations for each subject to pass in the MBA programme at Madras University Distance Education.

No, Established in 1857, the University of Madras, also known as the University of Madras or UNOM, has the distinction of being one of the oldest and the oldest universities in India. According to the National Institutional Rating Framework (NIRF) 2023, it is ranked 50th in the "University" category and 65th in the "Public" category. UNOM, a joint research university, has six campuses in different parts of the city including Chepauk, Marina, Guindi, Taramani, Maduravoyal and Chetpet. Accredited with grade A+ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), the University of Madras has been awarded the status of a High Potential University by the University Grants Council (UGC). Madrasa University Institute of Distance Education, commonly known as Madras University Institute of Distance Education, was established in 1981 as an extension of Madrasa University. Currently, Madrasa University Institute of Distance Education offers undergraduate, postgraduate, Diploma and certificate programs in various disciplines. The institute offers education in the fields of Science, Arts, Commerce, Management and Information Technology (IT). Additionally, IDE has a dedicated placement cell to provide training, placement and internship opportunities to students. In addition, University of Madras Institute of Distance Education provides scholarships for reserved category candidates.

Candidates must appear in an Management Entrance Test (MET) organised by the University and obtain a minimum of 40% aggregate or an eligible score obtained in CAT, XAT or CMAT.

The recent placements statistics has not been released by IDE University of Madras for MBA courses, however, as per the students’ reviews on the Shiksha page,  84% of the recent batch was successfully placed in the reputed companies. The the highest and the lowest package offered during the recent Madras University Distance Education placements stood at INR 35 LPA and INR 7 LPA, respectively.
