More about this course
  • This specialization is for learners wishing to dramatically change the way that they use Excel spreadsheets by unleashing the power to automate and optimize spreadsheets using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)
  • The first two courses will teach learners the basics of VBA through the use of dozens of educational screencasts and a series of quizzes and in-application programming assignments
  • Finally, in Part 3 of the course, learners will complete 3 "real world" and somewhat open ended projects, which are graded through peer review
  • Learners will complete one easy project (chosen from two potential projects), one intermediate project (chosen from two potential projects), and a third, required Monte Carlo simulation project (intermediate in difficulty). Projects include: Real-Time Currency Converter, Geography Toolbox, Ultimate Organizer, Regression Toolbox, Monte Carlo Simulation, and Grade Manager

Learning Experience: The content of the course was amazing. Charlie (instructor) did a great job in making the course challenging and engaging by introducing projects at the end of each week which you have to clear in order to proceed on to the next week. The course is built in a way that people with no experience with coding are able to start from scratch. Part 3 of the course contains capstone project and demands a lot more from the learners as it will encourage googling and writing code in your own way to real world problems like currency converter and Monte Carlo simulation. By the end of the course one will be 100% confident, having learnt VBA and successfully completing a peer reviewed test.
Faculty: Charlie Nuttelman is very clear about the content of the course and have made the weekly assignments challenging. This ensures that people actually learn diligently instead of just breezing through the videos. I personally find the course quite engaging and informative. The course is divided in 3 parts. Part 1 introduces you to VBA and gets you going with the application. Part 2 contains some intermediate level syntax and validations. To proceed with learning with next week curriculum, one has to clear the assignment of that week. Lastly, Part 3 contains peer reviewed Capstone projects which one has to complete in order to get full specialization.
Course Support: Excel VBA is primarily used in a lot of organisations to automate the tasks from the 1990s. A lot is built on that architecture. Its understanding is prerequisite in some jobs as well.
