Each candidate can attempt UCEED a maximum of two times in consecutive years, and the score of the entrance exam is valid only for one year. The selection of candidates for the MDes programme offered at IIT Guwahati is based on the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) conducted as a part of the central admission procedure. In addition to this, MDes aspirants need to clear the Design Aptitude Test (conducted at DoD, ITG for shortlisted candidates based on CEED) followed by a personal interview and portfolio evaluation. Bachelor's degree (four-year) or equivalent qualification in Design/ Engineering/ Architecture/ Interior Design or any other Design-related field with a minimum of 6.0 CPI on a 10-point scale or 60% aggregate is the basic eligibility for the MDes programme offered at IIT Guwahati. Candidates with a Professional Diploma in Design of NID or a Professional Diploma of CEPT (five-year) with a minimum of 6.0 CPI out of 10 or 60% aggregate can also apply for MDes admission.

The cut off rank in Round 6 for B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering is 5959 which is very close to this range. This was for general category under All India quota. Candidates seeking admission in an IIT Guwahati MBA course must have a valid bachelor’s degree issued by a recognised university. Admission to the MBA course is based on merit in CAT score followed by + Personal Interview + Work Experience + Academic Merit.
