Very much satisfied with my academics and placements at JGEC.

Placements: The electrical engineering department at JGEC has a strong placement record, with around 70% of students already placed. Recent placement drives saw companies like Haldia Petrochemicals offering the highest salary package offered is 6.97 LPA. The lowest salary package offered is 4 LPA by Techno Electric & Co. The average salary package offered is about 5 LPA. Top recruiters include Tata Power, HPL, Wood, Worley, L&T, and Jindal Saw. Almost all students secured internships, with opportunities at companies such as Siemens, CESC, and Tata Power, and research internships at NIT Durgapur and IIT Kharagpur.

Infrastructure: There are adequate number of labs and classrooms are there in our college. But some labs are outdated and some are really very good such as machines lab, power electronics lab, etc. Some digital classrooms and a centralized library are also there. Our hostel accommodation is also very good with adequate number of rooms. But food quality in mess is not adjustable. But one can get good food in the canteens.

Faculty: Our all teachers are very knowledgeable and very much skilled in their professions. But we can't understand the way of teaching of some professors. Electrical is such a course through which one can switch in both directions core and non-core. Different companies also come which is very much needed. By the way, semester exams are not so tough, professors also give suggestions before exams. Every year, students pass all semesters.

I just want to say that the college is best for faculty, placement, hostel life.

Placements: 70% of the students in my department were placed last year. The highest package offered was around 7-8 LPA, and the lowest was 3 LPA. Several good companies, including L&T, recruit from JGEC each year.

Infrastructure: The facilities at Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College are not too good and are quite limited. The same goes for the hotel here, where the only meal served is lunch or dinner; there is no breakfast. On the plus side, the hostel has good sports facilities, and the weather in Jalpaiguri is very pleasant.

Faculty: The teachers are very helpful, and the teaching quality is good. They prepare you for the industry. The difficulty level of the semesters is average, and the passing percentage is 40%.

Other: I chose this course because I am interested in the subject matter. I am finding the course to be challenging but rewarding.

The JGEC Diary ( The good and bad side of a Tier 3 college).

Placements: In this academic year 2023-2024, 60% of final-year students are placed. The highest package is 60 LPA from Computer Science and Engineering. The lowest package is 3.6 LPA. The top recruiters are Atlassian, WTW, Knorex, Microsoft, Hexaware, L&T, etc. Ninety percent of students got internships from our college. The top roles offered in our course are Software Development Engineer.

Infrastructure: The hostel infrastructure is not too good, but they provide us with a LAN connection for the internet. In the hostel, they provide two meals a day; there is no breakfast. In front of our hostel, there are various playgrounds like football, cricket, basketball, volleyball, etc.

Faculty: In our college, some faculty members are good, but the majority are below average. Most of our faculty members completed their degrees from tier 2 or tier 3 colleges. In this course, the curriculum is mostly irrelevant. They don't prepare students to work in the industry. The difficulty level of semester exams is medium, and the pass percentage is 95.

Other: I chose this course as I didn't get a chance in NIT/IIT. The best thing about our course is that after graduation, you can either enter the IT sector or the Core sector. I hope that our college will provide good quality placements in both sectors. There are two main fests, one is the Cultural fest, and the other is the Technical fest. The Cultural fest is named JECLET, and it is the biggest fest in North Bengal.

Review of JGEC - Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College.

Placements: Earlier, the placement scenario at Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College was not very promising. However, there has been a significant improvement since then. In the academic year 2022-23, almost all students were placed. Among core departments, nearly 90% of students found placements, while in non-core departments, the placement rate reached 100% in big companies. The highest package offered was 63 LPA from the CSE department in a Google off-campus drive, while the lowest package recorded since 2017 was 6 LPA. The top recruiting companies include Infosys, TCS, Adani, Tata, among others. Approximately 97% of students secured internships, both offline and virtual, in companies like Infosys, Capgemini, Microsoft, etc. Details regarding the top roles offered have not been properly published by the college yet.

Infrastructure: Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College, being one of the oldest colleges in West Bengal, suffers from poor infrastructure. The overall appearance of the college is not favorable, with the colors appearing dull. Classrooms are often dirty, with broken benches. However, each department has its own classrooms, practical rooms, and labs, equipped with Wi-Fi facilities. The college boasts of two libraries, but the condition of the hostels is subpar, with dirty bathrooms being a common issue. Despite this, the food provided in the hostel canteens is of good quality. Each hostel has its own separate canteen and a common room for recreational activities. Unfortunately, medical facilities for students are lacking, and water availability is inconsistent.

Faculty: For every department, there are almost 10 teachers, each of whom holds an M.Sc. degree. However, they do not teach us properly, and classes are often canceled due to the teachers being busy. As a result, the teaching quality is rated at 5 out of 10. The course spans 4 years, divided into 8 semesters. Each semester consists of one external exam and two internal exams for every subject. The questions are relatively easy, with a pass percentage of 40%.

Other: Two events took place: Sristri and Jaclet. The seniors are not supportive and often engage in ragging junior students.
