In an effort to enable learners from rural areas to pursue professional courses, the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI) will be launching as many as 1000-1500 Cost Management Account (CMA) support centres in the country by the year 2013.

The plan is to set up one centre each in every district across the country.  The need to set up such centers stems from the need of huge demand of CA professionals from the public sector companies. These upcoming CMA centers would be training around 5,00,000 students in the next two years.

ICAI president, M Gopalakrishnan said there was a huge demand for cost accountants from public sector companies. Each year, about 5 lakh students joined the course, while the ICAI wanted to train about 5 million students.

The centres to be set up by this Kolkata-based apex institute will target to train students from rural, semi-urban, and tier-III and tier-IV cities. The institute will join hands with various educational institutions and organizations to open these centres and offer satellite cost accounting classes. Students will be provided training in practical IT, taxation, corporate law and other areas.

Recently, ICAI launched a specialized course on Performance Management and Appraisal System. This short-term course aims to meet the ever rising demand of cost professionals in the country.
