Q:   How can I get admission to Power Engineering courses at the IITs?
A:

For getting admission to M.Tech courses in Power Engineering at the IITs, you should have at least 55 to 60% marks in your bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a relevant field. If you belong to the reserved category, the marks eligibility requirement is usually relaxed by 5%. Also, you have to give the GATE exam. You must secure a good rank in the entrance exam as it plays the most important role in the admission process.

After you successfully secure a decent rank in GATE, you will have to appear for the COAP counselling process where you will be allotted a seat according to your rank at one of the IIT branches in India. Interestingly, if you are an IIT BTech graduate with a CGPA of 8 or above, you need not give the GATE test and can directly apply for the COAP counselling.

For BTech courses in Power Engineering, you must have at least 50 to 60% marks in the PCM subjects in Class 12 and give the JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams. Make sure to get a good rank and then apply for the JoSAA counselling meant for seat allocation.
