What is IIT JAM?
The Joint Admission Test for MSc (JAM) is an all-India level online entrance exam conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) every year on a rotational basis on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India. IIT JAM is conducted to provide admission to candidates in MSc and other postgraduate courses offered at IITs and integrated PhD courses offered by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. Several National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) also accept JAM scores for MSc admissions.

IIT JAM 2026 Application Form
The IIT JAM 2026 application correction window is being conducted from October 31, 2025, to November 10, 2025. The registration process was conducted from September 5 to October 20, 2025. The application fee could be paid by October 25, 2025.
The process was completely online, right from the registration process to depositing the online fee for the examination. Candidates had to first visit the official website of the exam to complete the application process and pay the application fee in online mode (already closed).

IIT JAM 2026 Pattern, Syllabus and Mock Test
IIT JAM 2026 exam pattern will be same as that of last year. It will be a computer based test of 3 hours duration, conducted in two slots. There are total number of questions is 60, and the total marks is 100. There are three types of questions, which are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT). JAM 2026 Examination will be conducted in SEVEN subjects, also referred to as Test Papers; Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Economics (EN), Geology (GG), Mathematics (MA), Mathematical Statistics (MS), and Physics (PH). The medium for all the Test Papers is English only.
JAM 2026 examination pattern is divoded in such a way that the exam will be conducted in the form of three sections ie., Section A, B and C.
Section - B contains a total of 10 Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) carrying two marks each. Each MSQ is similar to MCQ but with the difference that MSQ may have one or more than one correct choice (s) out of the four given choices. The candidate is awarded full credit only if all the correct answer (s) and no wrong answers are selected. Candidates can mark the answer (s) by clicking the choice (s). There is no negative marking or partial marking for MSQ.

IIT JAM Hall Ticket 2026 will be available on January 5, 2026. IIT JAM 2026 admit card will be accessible only to students who have completed the application. Below is the process to download admit card:

IIT JAM 2025 Analysis and Student Reactions
The majority of the students appeared for the Mathematics and Chemistry papers in the morning shift. There were a few takers of the Geology paper. The Mathematics section was difficult compared to the previous year. The Chemistry section has been rated as easy to moderate. IIT JAM 2026 Answer Keys
IIT Bombay will release the IIT JAM 2026 answer key in the fourth week of February 2026. Candidates can download the IIT JAM 2026 answer key by using their login credentials. In case of any discrepancy, candidates will be able to submit challenges within the time issued by the authority by logging into the IIT JAM 2026 candidate portal.
Candidates will also be given the option to file objections against the provisional IIT JAM 2026 answer keys by paying a fee of INR 500 per question. Candidates' OMR sheets will be released along with the answer keys. Well, if you have Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, all three in your Bachelor's degree you should first understand and analyze that which subject you like the most and you are highly interested in. Then devote atleast a year and evaluate the scope of M.Sc in that particular subject, study it and then select the subject. Don't be in a rush, take your time.
Firstly, go through the syllabus and keep notes attached to it. Then create a study plan and refer to quality study material like recommended textbooks make consice notes for revision. Practice regularly solve mock tests, previous year papers and solve its problems.
BONUS: Don't use your phone when you are preparing for the exam. If you're studying then keep your phone silent and stay away from unnessecary distractions.

FAQs on IIT JAM 2026

There will be a total of 60 questions carrying a total of 100 marks. The entire paper will be divided into three sections, A, B and C. All sections are compulsory. Questions in each section will be of different types as given below:
Section - C contains a total of 20 Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions involving 10 questions of one mark each and 10 questions of two marks each. For NAT questions, the answer is a signed real number, which needs to be entered using the virtual numeric keypad displayed on the monitor. No choices will be shown for NAT questions. There is no negative marking for NAT.
Scribes will be arranged for those PwD candidates who have requested to be provided with a scribe at the time of application.
Qualification of the scribe arranged by test center will NOT be more than the minimum eligibility criteria of JAM 2026. However, the qualification of the scribe will be matriculation (10th) or above. If there are Y candidates who require scribe, it will be ensured that a panel of (Y+1) scribes is available at the exam centre so that every candidate can have an alternative scribe to choose for the services.
