A:

Candidates are often confused between Diploma in Sociology and BA Sociology. Let me tell you that both these are different qualifications though they have similar eligibility criteria. BA Sociology is a more popular option among students. Diploma in Sociology is often pursued by candidates before pursuing a bachelor's degree. You must know that a Diploma is not equivalent to an undergraduate degree. Many students who do have scored less than 50% marks in Class 12 and are not eligible to apply for BA Soiology course in reputed colleges apply for Diploma courses.

Q:   How many years does one need to spend to complete PhD?

As per my research and knowledge, a Ph.D. scholar needs a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 6 years to complete his/her Ph.D. programme, If there will be any extension of more than 6 years, it depends on the approval by the R&D department. There are many universities for PhD programme, but I found LPU is the best for both full-time and part-time PhD. Let me share few details of PhD programme at LPU. *Eligibility Criteria (Qualifying Exam)* Masters degree with 55%* marks in aggregate in a relevant discipline or equivalent, subject to qualifying LPUNEST and Interview. Other conditions, as prescribed in the Guidelines for Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D. ) programmes. 5% relaxation to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer) / differently-able candidates. *Selection Criteria:* * An applicant will be short-listed for an interview on the basis of his/ her score in the entrance examination LPUNEST (Ph.D. ). * The final selection for admission in Ph.D. will be based on the performance in Entrance Test (70% weightage) and Interview (30% weightage) subject to scoring minimum marks in the Interview. *Exemption from Entrance Test* Applicants who have qualified UGC (NET/ JRF)/ CSIR (NET/ JRF)/ ICAR (JRF/ SRF) examination/ SLET (Punjab only)/ GATE or GPAT score card/ ICAR (NET), SPM, Teacher Fellowship holder or passed M.Phil.
