BA LLB: Course Fees, Admission 2026, Syllabus, Top Colleges, Career Scope

Bachelor of Legislative Law is an undergraduate law degree which focuses on integrating knowledge regarding law and other subjects to the candidates. Students are also introduced to law case studies which will help them practice for their careers in the law field. 
The majority of Law schools run a semester system in which the five- ear duration course is divided into 10 semesters. This course is a flagship course that was started by NLUs across the nation and subsequently offered by other private and government universities.

More than 800 colleges in India offer BA LLB, including government and private colleges. So, the course fee structure of every college can vary depending on the college's rating, faculty rating, placement record, etc. Though for your reference:

• Government Colleges Course Fees: INR 2,100 to INR 10 lakh
• Private Colleges Course Fees: INR 36,370 to INR 25.18 lakh 

To pursue Law after 12th, you need to enroll for a 5 year integrated Law course like BA LLB, BCom LLB, or BBA LLB, and ensure that you qualify class 12 with at least 45 percent of aggregate. Other than that, you need to sit for Law exams like CLAT and gain a seat in top Law institutes in Inida. 

For BA LLB admissions, the students will have to attempt the respective entrance examination of the institute if they wish to apply for admissions. Many government colleges give admission on merit-basis but the top colleges such as National Law Universities, Jindal Global Law School provide admission solely on the basis of marks scored in entrance examinations. Hence, candidates can prepare for competitive law school entrance examinations such as KIITEE,  CLAT,  AILET,  SLS AIAT etc..

Pass Class 12 from a recognised board in any stream with a minimum of 50% aggregate. For BA LLB admission the minimum marks can be different for different colleges with relaxation for reserved categories. 

Students of any stream can apply for BA LLB provided that they meet the basic eligibility criteria. Candidates should clear Class 12 in any stream from a recognised school, with minimum 45-50 percent aggregate marks. There is no age bar to pursue the course. Also, if a candidate aspires to pursue law from NLUs, he has to pass CLAT UG entrance examination. Therefore, candidates from Science, Arts or Commerce background can take up BA LLB in graduation level since the candidates are taught basic concepts of Political Science, Sociology in the first semester.

Yes. CLAT is necessary for BA LLB admissions in NLUs. The national-level Common Law Admission Test (or CLAT) is conducted by the Consortium of NLUs for admission to 5-year integrated LLB (UG) and one-year LLM (PG) courses offered by 24 participating NLUs. Currently, UG courses are offered by all 24 NLUs, and PG courses are offered at 21 NLUs. 

However, it is solely not responsible for admission to BA LLB courses, other exams like MHT LAWCET are also there for entrance in other institutes which are basically from Maharashtra state. Similarly, there are other state-level and institute-specific exams also through which you can take up this course. 

The All India Bar Examination AIBE is to examine an advocate's capability to practice the profession of law in India. The AIBE will assess skills at a basic level, and is intended to set a minimum benchmark for admission to the practice of law, it addresses a candidates analytical abilities and understanding basic knowledge of law. After passing the examination candidate will be awarded "Certificate of Practice" by the Bar Council of India. AIBE will be conducted in 40 cities all across India.  Candidates will have 11 languages to choose for attempting the examination. Examination pattern will be multiple choice question and it will be open book exam. The notification bringing the All India Bar Examination into force was passed by the Legal Education Committee and the members of the Bar Council of India.

Taking into consideration the NLIU Bhopal BA LLB (Hons) cutoff 2024, yes, a student belonging to the General AI category can get into the BA LLB (Hons) course CLAT cutoff rank of 400. 

NLIU Bhopal accepts CLAT scores for admission to the BA LLB (Hons) and LLM courses. The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has released the CLAT Fourth Allotment list 2024. As per the NLU Bhopal CLAT cutoff 2024, the Round 1 closing rank for the BA LLB (Hons) course was 404, with admissions closing after Round 2 with a cutoff rank of 450 for CLAT seat allotment result for the General AII India category candidates.  

For pursuing B.A. LL.B. You can opt any stream in 10+2 I. e. , Science, Commerce or Arts. There is no special stream is required for pursuing B.A. LL.B. But, however if you choose arts then it will be more beneficial in your graduation as in arts streams there are subjects like History, Political Science, Sociology, etc. Which will also be in your graduation, here you will get advantage for choosing Arts. At the end it's your choice you can opt any stream in which you are interested. 

The Logical reasoning section carries the maximum weightage; i.e. 50 per cent in the AILET exam. Reasoning is actually a combination of both verbal logic, as well as analytical reasoning. So, one part is full of numbers and data, while the other is made of words and puzzles. Reasoning needs ample practice. Books by MK Pandey and RS Aggarwal will suffice. For Data Interpretation (DI) questions, the trick lies in forming the table. Once this is done, the rest of the questions flow automatically. Hence, the students are advised to prepare this subject carefully and give special attention.

BA LLB graduates mostly aspire to work in the law only. They can work as lawyers, advocates, solicitors etc. They can also pursue higher education LLM or MBA. Graduates generally take up the role of a Lawyer representing their clients in various civil & criminal court proceedings. That includes tasks such as initiating a lawsuit, documenting legal papers, attending meetings, assessing cases and coming up with possible solutions.

To get a Law degree in India, you need to complete bachelor's in Law, i.e. LLB, or integrated Law degree such as, BA LLB, BTech LLB, BBA LLB, and BCom LLB. 

After gaining a Law degree in any of the above field you can either choose to puruse LLM or sit for AIBE exam that give you license for practicing law in courts.

I know BA LLB is a common career path for future Lawyers, but you don't necessarily need to become a Lawyer only. After BA LLB, you can prepare for IAS or IPS Services, join firms or MNCs as a Legal Consultant, or join government organizations like Banks, legal departments, etc.. The truth is that many top-tier private BA LLB colleges are also providing high-class education and great placement options; however, NLUs have an established reputation in the country. Also, NLUs have affordable fee structures compared to private institutes. Plus, the rigorous curriculum and high competition for seats also make them stand out in the crowd. 

It depends on the candidate's educational background and plans. BA LLB is an integrated course of five years, where students study both LLB and Arts subjects. However, LLB is a three-year course, which is solely around the study of law. Moreover, BA LLB is popular among Class 12 pass wanting to pursue a career in the field of Law. The placement opportunities are also more attractive in NLUs and other private colleges. 

Thus, it cannot be really said which is course is better. However, BA LLB is slightly more popular.

B.A LLB full form is Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws. A combined UG Law degree integrating BA and LLB. Further, if you are interested in gaining more specialised knowledge then you can also opt for a BA LLB Hons.

Some important points to consider: The programme is 5 year long. It covers subjects from arts and law. Arts subjects include political science, economics, sociology, history, english, etc. Law subjects cover various aspects of legal studies, like constitutional law, criminal law, contract law, administrative law, and legal research.
