Hi,
Yes, VLSI necessitates code, In fact, coding is an essential skill for VLSI design engineers. VLSI engineers define the behavior and structure of digital circuits using hardware description languages (HDLs). HDLs are programming languages created specifically for VLSI design. HDLs are used by VLSI engineers to model digital circuits before they are synthesized and manufactured.
This modeling approach enables engineers to validate the circuit's functionality and improve it for performance and area. Coding is also used in VLSI design tools, such as simulation tools and physical design tools.
Hope it helps !
If you are interested in software development and designing systems that control and monitor specific functions in a device, then embedded systems may be a good fit for you. If you are interested in hardware design and designing the chips that power electronic devices, then VLSI design may be a good fit for you.
In case, you are looking to choose without any core individual interest as such then, here is a table that summarizes the key differences between embedded systems and VLSI design:
Feature | Embedded systems | VLSI design |
---|---|---|
Role | Embedded systems are computer systems that are designed to perform specific tasks in a larger system. They are found in a wide range of devices, including cars, airplanes, medical devices, and consumer electronics. Embedded systems engineers design, develop, and test these systems. | VLSI design is the process of designing integrated circuits (ICs), also known as chips. ICs are used in almost all electronic devices. VLSI engineers use hardware description languages (HDLs) to design ICs, and they then work with fabrication companies to manufacture the chips. |
Focus | Software development | Hardware design |
Abstraction level | High-level abstraction | Low-level abstraction |
Tools used | Programming languages, embedded operating systems | HDLs, design automation tools |
Career opportunities | Automotive engineering, industrial control systems, consumer electronics | Research and development, design and engineering, manufacturing |

GATE exam is conducted only once a year to offer admissions to master's and PhD programs at top institutions, such as IITs and NITs. Qualifying GATE exam also paves the way for technical jobs in in PSUs. This year, IIT Guwahati will conduct the GATE 2026 exam. The GATE 2026 exam dates are OUT. The GATE 2026 EXAM DATES are February 7, 8, 14, and 15. The GATE will be held on different dates in two shifts. Candidates are advised to keep checking the website for the GATE 2026 official notification.
Total 120 questions will be asked in the AP PGECET question paper. All the questions are Multiple Choice Questions. Solving question papers helps candidates successfully clear the AP PGECET 2025 exam. Each question carries one mark, and there is no provision for negative marking. The questions will be asked in the English language.
CEETA PG stands for Common Engineering Entrance Test for Admission Postgraduate, a competitive examination for admission to ME, MTech, MArch, and MPlan programmes. Until 2022, the admissions were based on TANCET. From 2023, the admissions for ME, MTech, MArch, and MPlan programmes in Anna University, Annamalai University and other government colleges in Tamil Nadu are based on CEETA PG score.
JEE Main syllabus can be categorized as medium in difficulty level. The topics covered in JEE Mains syllabus are similar to CBSE class 11 and 12 syllabus. Students can prepare for JEE Mains exam using their NCERT textbooks to get a good score. Candidates aiming top colleges are however advised to refer additional books to score high marks in JEE Mains.
The definition of a good IIT can be subjective. The candidates who wish to get admisison to the first generation of the IITs like IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Roorkee must have a high score of 250+ marks out of 360 marks. However, this is not applicable for all courses offered by these IITs. Every course and IIT has different demand and seat ratio which effects the admission of the candidates. Hence it is very difficult to say what will be the minimum score or rank required in JEE Advanced to get into a good IIT.
Candidates must aim to score as high as possible in the exam to be able to get a seat in the first generation of the IITs as these IITs see the most demand and craze among students in academia.

VLSI design tools are software applications that are used to design, verify, and fabricate integrated circuits (ICs). These tools are essential for VLSI designers, as they allow them to create complex ICs with millions or even billions of transistors. Some of the most popular VLSI design tools are:
- Cadence Design Systems (CDS)- CDS is a suite of VLSI design tools that covers the entire IC design flow, from RTL design to physical design.
- Synopsys: Synopsys offers a wide range of VLSI design tools, includingRTL synthesis, physical design, and verification tools.
- Zuken: Zuken offers a variety of VLSI design tools, including PCB design, schematic capture, and physical design tools.
VLSI design tools are constantly evolving, and new tools are being developed all the time. As the complexity of ICs continues to increase, VLSI design tools will become even more essential for VLSI designers.
Hi,
VLSI design is important as it allows us to create complex electronic devices that are small, powerful, and affordable. Without VLSI design, many of the electronic devices that we rely on today would not have been possible.
We have mentioned some related examples of why VLSI design is important:
- Smartphones: Smartphones are some of the most varsatile electronic devices ever created. They contain millions of transistors and are packed with features such as high-resolution displays, powerful cameras, and fast processors. VLSI design is essential for creating smartphones that are small, lightweight, and affordable.
- Computers: Computer is one of the most typical examples of the complex electronic devices that rely on the use of VLSI design. Every new computer model is built with billions of transistors, with some of the new models being able to do trillions of calculations in a second. Through VLSI design techniques it becomes possible to build computers that are highly capable and at the same time cheap also.
- Automotive electronics: VLSI design is also applied for designing electronics in the automobiles like anti lock braking systems, air bags and navigation systems. These systems are being used for safety and convenience where VLSI circuits play a significant role in the operations of these systems.
- Medical devices: It is also applied in medical appliances like pacemakers, MRI machines, etc., and cochlear implants. These devices tend to be rather sophisticated and frequently entail the use of application-specific VLSI circuits.
Hope it helps !

Hi,
Analog VLSI design jobs tend to have higher salaries than digital VLSI design jobs in India. This is because analog design is more complex and requires a deeper understanding of electronics. Additionally, there is a higher demand for analog designers in India, as the country has a growing semiconductor industry.
According to AmbitionBox, the average salary for an analog design engineer in India is INR 15.9 Lacs per year, while the average salary for a digital design engineer is INR 8.6 Lacs per year. This is a fairly big difference in the remunerations and one could easily explain that the analog design jobs are more difficult and in high demand. Besides, salary may depend upon many factors including experience, skills and the company where one works. For instance, a well experienced analog design engineer working with the reputable semiconductor firm can be paid INR 25 Lacs per annum or even more.
Hope this helps !
