Admission to a Production Engineer course is based on both merit and the entrance system. Many top colleges require entrance exam scores. Others, that provide admission on merit, can conduct separate rounds, like the Personal Interview round, to analyze your abilities.

To get admission to Production Engineering courses at the IITs. You must meet the minimum eligibility requirements. For UG-level course, you must secure at least 75% marks in Class 12 in the PCM subjects. For reserved category candidates, the marks eligibility requirement is usually 65%. Further, you have to appear for the JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams. You must secure a good rank in JEE Main to be eligible for JEE Advanced, which serves as the final call for admission.
After you successfully secure a decent rank in JEE Advanced, you will have to appear for the JOSAA counselling process where you will be allotted a seat according to your rank at one of the IIT branches in India. A similar admission process is followed for PG-level courses, but the eligibility criteria is 60% marks in your bachelor's degree in a related field and clearing the GATE exam. Interestingly, if you are an IIT graduate with a CGPA of 8 or above, you need not give the exam and are eligible for direct admission to the course.
