It’s time to bid adieu to ICAI CPT!
Good news for graduates and post graduates aspiring to join CA! Now, they can do so without appearing for the Common Proficiency Test (CPT).
In a recent announcement, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has scrapped Common Proficiency Test (CPT) to join CA and moved back to its old scheme. Related changes are effective from August 1, 2012.
While discussing the matter with The Hindu Business Line, Jalapathi, chairman of the Coimbatore branch of SIRC – ICAI (Southern India Regional Council), said that it’s a great opportunity for graduates and post graduates wishing to join CA programme. As per the latest scheme, now the eligible candidate can directly register and complete the course within three and half years by passing all the exams and completing the training programmes in just one go.
CPT was compulsory till July 31, 2012. Under the new scheme, graduates and post graduates would be able to register directly for the Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC). After registering for the program, one will have to undergo three years of training under a practicing chartered accountant. On the successful completion of nine months training, one will be eligible to appear for the IPCC exam.
