Delhi University (DU) has earned a place for itself among the “Top 100 QS University rankings for Asia in 2014”. One of the oldest educational institutions in Delhi, DU boasts of great faculty for its programmes across streams. In 2014, DU is offering admissions to candidates to fill a total of 54,000 seats. Out of this number, 12,150 seats are reserved for ST/SC category candidates and another 14,580 are reserved for OBC candidates.

Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC)

Commerce education in India began in 1886 and the Commercial School in Delhi introduced a post-matriculation diploma programme in Commerce under the supervision of R K Kumar. This Commercial College was later re-named to Shri Ram College of Commerce and was affiliation to Delhi University in 1926. The official website states, “In 1932, the College was upgraded to the status of a Degree College and started awarding its graduates the BA (Pass) (Commerce Group) Degrees of the University. The BA (Honours) (Commerce Group) Degrees were introduced in 1943. Closely on its heels, the same year saw the entry of MA (Economics), and in 1948 MCom was introduced. In 1949, when the B.Com (Honours) Degree was instituted in the University of Delhi, teaching the course seemed to be natural task of the College. The BA (Honours) Economics was introduced in 1958”.

Sir Shri Ram, established Lady Shri Ram College (LSR) in 1956. The college had its modest beginning in a school building in Daryaganj located at Central Delhi, with 243 students along with nine faculty members, four members in the support staff and three courses which students could study. LSR was established with an aim to provide a platform to women to receive good quality higher education. “Today, the college is located in a beautiful 15 acre campus in South Delhi, has approximately 2,000 students, over 150 faculty, administrative and support staff and 16 courses of study”, states the official website.

Kirori Mal College

Founded by American Jesuits during partition, Kirori Mal College (KMC) was earlier known as Nirmala College and was located on Qutub Road. Kirori Mal College is currently located at DU’s North Campus and is spread across 17 acres campus. The college’s official website states, “Various events are organized by Debate, MUSOC, FAPS, Players & Film Societies every year. The College is providing financial assistance to deserving students of the College. The College has about 5200 students on its roll out of which 170 live in the Hostel”.
