I was not very fond of Maths, so when I cleared standard X, I had only two options, either to go with Biology stream (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science) or Commerce with Computer Science. I preferred commerce since I had developed an interest in stocks and shares. This meant that for my further studies, I had already chosen my line. As for my graduation, I chose BCom. I think it is the most flexible course available. Not only is it light on the learning front (you can do other things as well), but it also allows you to choose from a wide variety of courses like MBA, ACA, ACS, ICWA etc. I chose BCom. with ACA first and then stuck to only BCom at a later stage, since I wanted to move into the computer field.

With no real formal training, I had to put in a lot of effort to learn the basics. I had the determination to do it and looking back, I think this was well worth it!

So far so good. I think my career choice came more out of interest. I started out as a graphic designer and still do a lot of graphic designing. It was hard at first to convince people that a guy with a Business graduation can do Engineering roles. Once the experience started to count, it became easier, but a few companies still do ask for Engineers and don't really prefer business grads. The bigger difficulty I had was to catch up with the Engineers who knew all the computer stuff already. With no real formal training, I had to put in a lot of effort to learn the basics. I had the determination to do it and looking back, I think this was well worth it! Sometimes, I do think that I should have stuck to design and not moved into coding, but, that doesn't matter much now.

Don't worry if you think you might have chosen the wrong path, revisit and look at what you can do to follow your dreams.. achieve it!"
