Mystory@Ravinder Singh: Nehru Memorial Government College was my last resort
I completed my senior secondary education from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Duliajan in Assam in 2012. I was worried about my admission to UG programme as I hadn’t applied to any college anywhere. Then I went to my hometown Mansa. There, my cousin suggested I can study B Com at Nehru Memorial Government College (NMGC). I was relieved to know that admission process was not over yet. My father told us to go to the college and enquire about the admission process.
The struggle
My cousin and I went to the college only to realise that only one day was left for admissions to close and I had to obtain an eligibility certificate from Punjab University, Patiala. I had only one day to go to Patiala, get the certificate, come back to Mansa and get admission in NMGC. Next morning, my father and I left for Patiala. After three hours of bus journey we reached Punjab University. It didn’t take much time to obtain the certificate and we heaved a sigh of relief and finally had breakfast. Then we returned to Mansa the same day. The next day my father, my cousin and I went to NMGC for admission. There the official refused to accept my application and said, “You are very late. I can’t accept your application. You should’ve submitted your application yesterday.” He even pushed my cousin and hurt him in his ribs. I immediately told my father about it. Filled with anger, my father confronted the man. My father told him that he will file complaint against him for hurting my cousin. Scared of the complaint, the official requested my father not to complain about him and accepted my application form. After a few hours, I was interviewed by the professors of Commerce department.
My classes began from August 1, 2012. When my class started I felt that each and every member of the Commerce faculty was very valuable and I can gain knowledge and skills from them. And that I could grow in life using their experiences.
So that’s my story about how I selected my college.
