Mystory@Shruti Bansal: My college prepared me for the tough world outside

Getting admission in Government Bikram College, Patiala has been the toughest part of my life. Being an average student, I could never think of getting 90% marks. But I worked really hard; burnt mid-night oil to score well because I didn’t want to stay in Rajasthan forever.

I live in a joint family and my family members did not agree on letting me go to another city to study. The only city they agreed for was Patiala, that too because my aunt lived there. Moreover, I had to score at least 85% to study in Patiala.

I was sent to Patiala finally as I had scored 90.6 % in Class 12. When I saw my result, I could not believe it. I had scored 99 marks in Physical Education for which I was given an award by the Education Minister in Delhi’s Vigyaan Bhawan.

So, I moved to Patiala which was seven hours away by train from my home town. My aunt had already done the research about colleges in Patiala and had selected Bikram College for me.

On the day of counselling, I was very excited as I was expecting a college life like that in movies. But life’s way different that movies.

This college has made my life. It has made me grow up in a short span of time. Life is obviously getting tough but this college has made me tough too. It has taught me to understand life, people and situations better. I truly owe a lot to my college and this has been the most memorable trip of my life.

As Late Dhirubhai Ambani said, “build your own dreams otherwise someone else will hire u to build theirs”; my graduation journey that taught me to build mine.
