Mystory@Swati Garg: What I gained from my college years
From being a child who had to ask her parents before going out every single time, suddenly, I was given the right to choose my career. Considering all factors like peer pressure, the need to get away from tough Science subjects like Chemistry, Physics and what not, then eliminating popular options of either being an engineer or a doctor, I had to find a workable option that would be acceptable as a good career path and be rewarding in the long run.
This is exactly how I chose Commerce as my stream in Class XII. Needless, to say, I am glad to have made this choice, not because of the stereotype of Commerce
being an ''easy" field (compared to Science) but because, it helps you live in the practical world and understand it better.

How I chose my course after Class XIIth
Now here's a fun fact that I have learnt after choosing to be in this field and spending considerable amount of time. And that is, you are never certain about what to do next. Choosing a field was an easy task, now which course to pursue after schooling was the BIG question. And by "BIG" I mean big enough to decide where you stand after 5 years. After all, it is a world full of hungry vultures prying on a single goal, which is that same as yours.
Needless to say, the 3 month wait for Delhi University cut-offs was a long period after the XIIth Board exams, in which no matter how hard you try, there's always one paper that you think will ruin your entire percentage of marks. So then began my journey of taking up countless entrance exams like the one for IP university or that for
Delhi University’s BMS. And now I realise that such exams were a formality. Why? Because everyone in their heart knows, from the beginning, which course they want to pursue. And giving additional exams are basically like an assurance of the fact that the course you earlier had in your mind is the right one to pursue.
How I spent my college years
I am pursuing BCom (Hons) from Janki Devi Memorial College (JDMC). Since I took admission in a girls’ college, the first few days were quite difficult to spend. Why? Because I had never experienced so many girls around me. So after a bit of adjustments, I started to like this change around me. I began to appreciate the things that life treated me with for the next three years.
I joined the debating society of my college and I can see the changes in my personality, which I am proud of today. This society not only taught me the techniques of becoming a good debater but it also guided me to become a good disciplinarian, a keen listener and most importantly, it taught me how to be a non-judgmental soul.
Apart from the debating society, I also organised events in my college, which further taught me skills concerning leadership and salesmanship (which I developed through approaching people for sponsorship).
After a number of internships, I can say, I have tried my hand at a wide variety of things. However, even after some experience, I am still clueless as to what to pursue next. And you know what, it's alright because I am prepared for the new experiences that life has in store for me.
Hence, my message to all those who are searching for the right career options is to keep experiencing, whatever happens, it'll be for the good.
