The Delhi High Court issued a notice to Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) on Wednesday, seeking its response to the alleged irregularities in the admission process for undergraduate programmes under the sports quota.

A bench comprising Justices M.C. Garg and Ajit Bharihoke asked the college to respond to a student's claim that he was denied admission last year because of irregularities in the admission process.

The court was hearing a petition filed by Abhishek Chandran, whose application for admission was rejected last year, despite being first on the wait list, and some other candidate was admitted instead whose name did not figure on the list. The petition was earlier dismissed on the ground that the admission process had been completed by that time.

The bench had, however, said the col- lege had not been able to explain why a certain candidate, who had not figured on the merit list and wait list, was given admission. Advocate Sunil J. Mathews, appearing for the student who is study- ing in another Delhi University college, contended that the admission process under the sports quota is illegal as it is being handled by the college's sports convener, who does not possess the qual- ifications notified by the UGC.

The court issued notices to the col- lege, its sports convener and the Delhi University. The matter will now be heard on August 28.
