National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is an entrance exam for admissions to 5 year B.Arch. degree course offered by all institutes / schools / colleges of Architecture in India (including Govt., Govt-aided, Private Unaided, University Depts., Deemed Universities, etc.). The test measures an applicant's aptitude for Architecture that includes drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity and critical thinking ability, that have been acquired over a long period of time, and that are related to specific field of study, i.e. Architecture.

The test is scheduled to commence from March 20, 2013. Aspirants can take the test on any working day after March 20, 2013 until further communication at the designated test centers.

Note: Some test centers may open late or stop conducting tests even before this date. Please check with the centre before registering. Appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Eligibility:

  • Individuals having passed SSC (Std X) or equivalent examination can appear for NATA
  • Candidates having minimum 50% marks in 10+2 or equivalent examination with mathematics as one of the subject only are eligible for admission to B.Arch. Course.

Test Pattern:

The test is divided over two parts - A paper based drawing test and computer based online aesthetic sensitivity test.

Drawing Test:

A two hour paper based test, the drawing test encompasses three questions. It further judges the following aspects:

  • Ability to sketch a given object proportionately and rendering the same in visually appealing manner.
  • Visualising and drawing the effects of light on the object and shadows cast on surroundings.
  • Sense of perspective drawing.
  • Combining and composing given three dimensional elements to form a building or structural form
  • Creating interesting two dimensional composition using given shapes and forms
  • Creating visual harmony using colours in given composition.
  • Understanding of scale and proportions.
  • Drawing from memory through pencil sketch on themes from day to day experiences

Aesthetic Sensitivity Test:

This computer based test comprises 40 multiple choice questions. The test measures perception, imagination and observation, creativity and communication along with architectural awareness and comprises of:

  • Visualising three dimensional objects from two dimensional drawings
  • Visualising different sides of three dimensional objects
  • Identifying commonly used materials and objects based on their textural qualities
  • Analytical reasoning
  • Mental Ability
  • Imaginative comprehension and expression
  • Architectural awareness

Test Centres

Test Fees:

NATA Information Brochure (including Registration Form): Rs.1000.00. This includes NATA test fees, at the designated branches of "ICICI Bank Ltd." given in the brochure.

How to apply:

  • Purchase NATA 2013 Information Brochure & Registration form by payment of Rs. 1000.00 at selected bank branches of "ICICI Bank Ltd.".
  • Fill up the Registration form and procure the necessary registration documents
  • Select a Test Centre (from the website http://www.nata.in) at a location convenient to the candidate
  • Approach the Test Centre with the filled up form and the documents
  • Select convenient date for appearing for NATA
  • Request Test Centre to register the candidate on the selected date
  • Procure Receipt cum Appointment voucher from the Test Centre
  • Appear for NATA on the registered date at the selected Test Centre

NATA scores:

NATA scores are used by admissions authorities of different Government, Govt. Aided & unaided schools / colleges of Architecture, to provide common measure for comparing the qualifications of applicants, for admission in addition to their scholastic performance in 10+2 or equivalent examination.
