A total number of 73.47 lakh youths availed training under the PMKVY 2016.20, out of which, 16.61 lakh candidates have been successfully placed.

Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship RK Singh on February 7, 2020, stated in Rajya Sabha that the ministry has successfully placed 16.61 lakh, people, after providing them relevant training under the second edition of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY 2.0). The minister gave this response in a written format while replying to a query about the scheme in which he told that a total number of 73.47 lakh youths have availed training under the PMKVY 2016.20. Out of the total number, 16.61 lakh candidates have been successfully placed.

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has implemented the second phase of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY 2.0) with a vision of imparting development skills to perspective youth across 371 courses. Under the Craftsman Training Scheme, 15697 industrial training institutes (ITI) with a cumulative seating capacity of 34.30 lakh, are imparting long-term training in 137 cadres. Through this scheme, the government aims at providing industry-relevant skill training to a large number of Indian youth. The minister also revealed that the industry’s giant like IBM, CISCO, Microsoft, Adobe, etc. have come forward to help the training programmes.

According to Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Mahendra Nath Pandey, the ministry is planning to begin with the third phase of its flagship Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) in the next financial year. PMKVY was launched in 2015 and the government revamped the scheme in 2016 to impart skills to one crore youth by 2020. The revamped scheme is known as PMKVY 2.0. According to the official data, more than 69 lakh candidates have been trained under PMKVY till November 11 in India.
